Fair play to them. It's a long bus ride from Broadmeadows to Cranbourne.

And if you have ever lived in parts of Cranebourne

You wouldn’t be feeling to superior about people from Broadmeadows

Bomber Suppoerters an Exception

They all need to be sentenced to spending a week in the presence of Kevin Sheedy a cruel and unfair punishment

I’m kinda glad I didn’t arrive in time to join banner crew. Not sure I could’ve kept my [censored] together when this happened…

My buddy M ended up on his ar*se and while he didn’t make an ar*se of himself (see what I did there!) I know for a fact had that’ve been me, it would’ve been in the most ungraceful and embarrassing fashion…

Proud af to see my Irish flag waving throughout the match and despite that gale force Casey wind, not becoming uprooted…

It looked like the players were really struggling to get through the banner without getting clotheslined. Almost looked dangerous!

Yeah, while crepe paper is flimsy, packing tape is certainly not. We always leave the middle third of the bottom two rows of the banner tape-free for the players to run through without incident. But on Sunday the banner was so hard to keep upright that the angle of it meant the players were running through the (reinforced) taped section. It could’ve ended badly.

Should the cheer squad / team then consider abandoning the banner run through in such conditions? Imagine if there was a pre-game injury 😳

Probably would be wise. On very windy days or if it’s raining the banner doesn’t go up until the players are on the ground and pretty much right in front of it. Less time in the elements lessens the likelihood of damage.
On Sunday I was watching the raising and while it was windy all day, at the point when the players ran out onto the field it wasn’t too bad. Banner crew had such difficulty getting it up because at that exact moment a particularly strong gust blew through.
This is why Marvel is the best ground in terms of banner raising. Probs the only thing it’s best for, amirite?! 😁

Just a little vent, hope nobody minds. 🙏

I got to the Reach Foundation building in Collingwood (where we make the banners). Got here early since we’re making this weekend’s banner plus a couple of generics for finals. Turns out Reach double-booked, so for this week a last-minute change to AAMI Park was made. I can’t get there in time so for the first time since joining the DA I won’t be involved. 😭 I was hoping to be the Jimmy of banner making but my run’s been broken. 😭😭 AND tonight the players are gonna be there to help make the banners. 😭😭😭

Anyways I feel so much better now. Thanks all. 🌸

We'll smash Essendon on Sunday and that’ll more than make up for this. ❤️💙

Edit: I was serious about my run. Even the OGs have had at least one week where they couldn’t make it. And my run included a late Thursday night banner build before a 6am flight to Brisbane the next morning in round 23.

And so (next Thursday) begins another attempt at the record. 😁

So you missed doing it with some of the girls, too? It looked like fun, so double bummer for you.

I hope the AFLW seasons get to boys' length PDQ, otherwise it's gonna be a looooong haul for you to 244!

Yep, it was pretty clear that us, Adelaide and Brisbane had the toughest. This fixture grading also doesn’t seem to take into account where we play, I think if it did ours would be the hardest, Adelaide in Adelaide, Freo in Freo, Gold Coast at Metricon. We’ve travelled a lot. We did lose to Brisbane at home, though that was less about fixture more about the ridiculous Taylor Harris suspension.

I love AFLW and have been on board since the exhibition games but until the administration gets serious and has every team play each other once per season it will always be deeply compromised. We’ve been through conferences, lopsided draws and this years insanity where almost half the comp don’t play each other. If the AFL admin cared about integrity (which it shows again and again they don’t) they would’ve held off adding the final four teams and instead had a 13 game season  + 3 finals with everyone playing each other once. It would also help all teams get experience and challenge all to raise the standard. Alas the almighty dollar wins again.

The big 3 had the toughest fixtures for sure

They also have the best records which says a lot about the gap between the top and bottom teams. 240% + for the Lions and us is pretty lob-sided as well

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
