McDonald’s foot injury in mid season was the most telling blow struck against the club in its campaign to defend the 2021 premiership flag. The key forward hasn’t played in a losing team since Round 19 of that season and was close to a return when the club lost its semi final against the Lions. The Demons sorely missed the strength and energy up forward that McDonald provides in the latter part of 2022.

"The key forward didn’t play a senior game following round 10 after surgery for a Lisfranc injury. McDonald’s gallant bid to return for the Demons’ finals campaign with a metal plate still in his foot ultimately fell short. A fit McDonald, with his big tank and strong marking, will make a welcome return to the Demons’ forward line next year." - Herald Sun

I heard around the traps that TMac is unlikely to recover enough for AFL level reliably and so will likely spend most of next season at VFL level 😭

Has anybody heard different?

Missed him badly. I’m not hopeful his foot will heal but really hope it does

Never right off T-mac, he is as strong willed as they come.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. No point playing in the 2's if a foot is dodgy. Better to play firsts if able and rest if unable. 14? games plus finals may be ok.

I doubt his doctors have indicated as reported this far out and would have made that suggestion in any event.

TMac VIP he has bucked the rule and gotten better with age, hope you get that foot right TMac you are so critical to our mighty Dees.!!

Yep hoping for a big 2023 from him. Will be interesting to see how much of a missing link he is/was.

On a side note based on your icon; I watched Marked for Death on the weekend

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

ï»żA hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
