it doesn't seem to matter what thread im in it always somehow loops back around to petty the forward smh. IT AINT HAPPENING PEOPLE!

Get set for another extended period in the also ran category with sharp creative thinking like that

Ok my early predictions, from the little I have seen of them,

JVR  , will play round 1 , future 250 game 500+ goal afl player , should of played games last year.

Howes, has skills , needs work in the gym, not sure wing is his right position , looks more a med forward to me , would like to see him lift his aggression , work rate and competitiveness, if he does he looks to have a very high ceiling .

Turner,  like him , looks a good prospect to me, seems to have all the right tools to make it

Chandler,  I would of given him games in front of Bedford , Spargo and ANB at different stages throughout the year , I think he has more goal sense and is better overhead than all 3 of them , loved his tackle btw.

Woey,  hopefully his good vfl grand final game gives him belief .

Laurie,  he is the one that worries me the most, his pace, height, overhead marking and tackling are of concern to me, he also does not look to be in condition still. He needs to have a big pre season and get stronger, leaner, meaner, keener.

After a season where we virtually give no new young talent games we simple have to next year.
The problem is that few were banging the door down to get a game.
I only watch half a dozen Casey games this year and kept a close eye on Laurie, JVR and Howes as they were our higher picks.
Laurie was the pick after Bowey and JT raved about both of them at the time. We could do we his quality kicking too but I didn’t see him put in one game where he played well in 4 quarters at VFL level.
JVR looks good and should get games but people need to lower their expectations of him for next year I think.
Howes looked ok in patches and hopefully will benefit from another preseason.
Really hope that an extra preseason sees a big improvement in some of our younger players and that we bring in a couple through the draft that will be able to make an impact next season.

JVR will have a much better chance of success if Petty is playing forward

Turner will have more chances if Petty plays forward

Howes - I am doubtful he will make it given his lack of physicality - please don’t even try to compare him to Robert Flower

Laurie is skilful but he lacks speed and imo is too similar to Spargo

Chandler performed really well in VFL - that unfortunately doesn’t guarantee it will translate to AFL - he probably deserves a few chances in 2023

AMW has skills but doesn’t get much of it at VFL level - hard to see him playing AFL tbh

Taj W could be a very handy player just seems to lack pace - if he had Bakers speed he’d be a walk up start

According to Draft stats Taj is extra quick over first 20m.

This is the issue

Despite the wins there were rarely if ever days where a player took the game apart. The system of boundary line play does not lend itself to eye catching runs.

If we replace the practice game with the "Magic Round" it will be just that little harder to see what some players might add at senior level.

VFL to commence at round 3 is the norm

Van Rooyen looks a beauty, but we'll need to be patient. (As an aside, I can't see Petty playing forward when he'll be needed to replace May in the next year or so.

I'm not as sold on Turner as others around here. Not big and not quick for the role we want him to play. Doesn't really impose himself in the VFL to date.

Laurie and Howes look a long way off to me given their output in the VFL final series. Laurie needs to work harder to get more involved in the game, whilst Howes probably just needs time in the gym and miles in the legs. Hopefully they can both have a big pre season.

Chandler has been on the list four years and has shown nothing much to date. You can argue about opportunities, but does he really demand them? He had the chance to come in and impress late against a tiring West Coast and managed to get himself suspended in a 5 minute cameo - that's just plain dumb.

Woewodin meets every challenge he is faced with and I think he will push for games next year.

Moniz-Wakefield is a very long shot of ever playing AFL, ditto McVee.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
