He was a bit loose for me. Gets separation when he doesn't need to and it wasn't about not taking marks it was more just being able to half contests. He's sometimes get bodied out too easily and Zeibel would mop up easily. Gets caught under it a bit too.

However he wasn't bad, I wouldn't be disappointed if he was given another go next week but someone does have to make way for Petty.

I reckon they'll rest JVR and get him ready for the Hawthorn or Port game.

He did ok as a depth player but likely to be straight back out with Petty fit next week

Hasn't played senior footy for a while but was expecting a bit more from Shak tonight.

Especially seeing as he already has 73 matches under his belt and bobbed up a few times at Casey recently (some nice contributions without setting the world on fire).

Not sure two stay at home forwards is the best mix either.

Yes i realise JVR roams a bit higher at times.  But for the main part the two of them are two peas in a pod in terms of the approx areas they seem to like to roam.

Reckon we need a leading forward like BBB or Macca with JVR playing deeper out of the square.

That's not to say Shak wont be given another week.  The brains trust might want to take another look?

However, with that in mind, Shak would most likely need to improve on tonight's performance quite significantly to retain his place from there.

I am also scratching my head to work out what it is (weapon/s wise) that he brings to the table?  Certainly didn't seem to show anything special in this regard tonight from what i saw.

He’s clean…but too clean. For his height he lacks overall size and strength. He’s also not naturally aggressive and that doesn’t bode well for him.

I don’t think he was as bad tonight as many are making out, but I see his deficiencies. For a tall his kicking delivery is a strength. Trouble is, he’s a long way back in the pecking order if everyone’s fit.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
