Paul Gardner on the Footy Show

  • Feels the AFL commission should intervene with the West Coast situation and punish Cousins
  • Not sure that Cousins deserves to play again, not in the short term at least, as he is affectively a cheat (he didn't say cheat, but he implied it and compared Cousins to a cyclist who gets caught using drugs and is punished with a long suspension).
  • Said Headland's reaction on Sunday (kissing the tattoo), was inciting the fans
  • We got fined $7,500 for the runner getting in the way of Sandilands on Sunday, no explanation or a 'please explain' given either. We've obviously asked why the fine is so heavy, when Braun only got a $5,000 fine for swearing. (My 2 cents worth: What a friggin disgrace, $7,500 for a silly runner mistake. Gees! )

  • Said he expects Daniher to coach us in 2008, but there will be no contract discussion in the press.
  • Also said Daniher may not necessarily want to coach us next year, as he may want a break (will this be the excuse for a mutual parting?)
  • Wants Neale to be our next premiership coach, and believes we are still in a premiership window. We're capable of winning a flag in the next 18 months according to PG.
Just quietly, I don't think Daniher will coach us next year, but PG is showing public support to try and get the media off our backs.

I'd be very surprised if Neale is still there in 2008.

Good on Paul Gardner, I can just guess what some will think of this. Compare his response to that of Joe Gutnik's when he stormed into the commentary box in 97 at half time against the Saints in Rd six and we were looking at a fifth straight loss.

Hutchy is a rat but at least he asks a few real questions, which is probably why everyone hates him. Remember him ripping into Don Scott a few years back..haha...but anyway

Whilst the interview was positive I can't halp but feel Gardiner is overly optimistic. We are last on the ladder and he says we can win a flag in 18 months. If a president of another club in our position had said that I would laugh. I think that ON OUR DAY AND WITH OUR BEST 22 ALL PLAYING WELL we can win a premiership. But we have no consistency, we have no depth and let's face come season's end when the contenders start to present themselves we start to unravel

sort of a shame he didnt just come out with the you know what ...'Unequivocal support " for the coach !! :-) ..as we all know what happens next!!.

but honestly..wish ND no malice.. hope he continues on a happy road.....maybe as a "rev' he's more suited to elevators going up as opposed to where elevators going down lead !!

Fully agree Graz. Another professional and mature performance by him. Its a far far improvement on Gutnick.

I cannot put in words how much I dislike Craig Hutchison.

I used to love him but now, I couldn't even begin to describe how much of a dirty, sly rat he is.

I completly agree with you. The moment he went to 9 he said on the footy show "they dont have enough cameras and i kinda got sick of their mediaoka footy coverage reports". This may be true but working at a station that has trained u and given u that profile for 7 years...doesent seem fair to slap it back in their face. I hate the guy so much and i seriously hope his career ends due to some unfortunate (forunate for me) mistake

I've no problem with the runner being fined, he interferred with play. That said he ws blindsided and didn't mean it.

If the runner cops a 7 grand fine, then surely the umpire should too. His mistake was worse than the runners, he had a clear view of the incident and was negligent in not paying a free to Freo. If not the umpire, then the AFL, as his employer, should be fined

If the runner, by being negligent in his duties get fined 7 grand then surely the umpire, who was even more megligent in his duties should have to cough up the same amount.

You are probably right there Rod, but do you want lay odds on that actually happening ;) ?!!!

They did get a free kick. We actually kept playing and kicked a goal that was disallowed and the ball brought back to the centre and Freo got the free kick. They got a goal as a result of that forward entry play!

I thought that decision was for something else - maybe a push in the contest paid against Miller? Not sure.

I really like PG, I like the way he goes about it and I like that he's a bigger picture sort of guy.

That said, his comments about Cousins were way off the mark.

Let's focus on us before we starting worrying about Ben Cousins.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury. LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success.

After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Unfortunately, didn’t quite get there although he did finish equal sixth in Casey’s best and fairest award. Date of Birth: 23 February 1999 Height: 198cm Games CDFC: 14 Goals CDFL: 13

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed.
