We haven't had one of these for a while.   Demonland posters:  "Praise the (John) Lord".

Today's team is of a reasonable standard, if a little light on for ruckmen.

It features only seven current players and four ex-Demons.

What common factor unites them?

Answers to me in a PM only, thank you very much.

I reckon this is a pretty easy one, but I've already had a peek at the solution.

No medals today as they have already been won by Australians in Birmingham.

B:       Matthew Whelan     Bob Murray     Jake Kelly

H/B:  Dale Morris     Tom Stewart     Heath Black

C:       Scott Thompson     Tim Watson     Bailey Smith

H/F:   Lachie Schultz     Darcy Moore     Jim Buckley

F:       Liam Ryan     Peter Wright     Brent Harvey

R:       Brian Roberts     Leigh Matthews     Garry Wilson

I/C:    Adrian Gleeson     David Williams     Ted Hopkins     Michael Reynolds

First correct answer has been submitted by La Dee-vina Comedia.

Incorrect suggestions that may be eliminated are that all the players goaled with their first kick and the odd notion that there is a connection to footwear.  I can't think of a sole reason for the latter.

We have a second correct response, this time from reynolds46.

I believe that this is the first time a winner has shared their name with a member of the team in the teaser.

It appears that there has been little movement at the station.

Either it's too hard OR nobody cares OR it's too hard and nobody cares.

Hint #1:  There is a football connection.

  • Author

The hint has helped mo64 work out the common factor.

We have our first three placegetters but I'll leave it open for others to have a go.

Good work @Demonstone, nonetheless, maybe Demonlanders are channeling their aversion to Tuesday night televised games, onto you?

  • Author

That may well be the case, EO.

I've got a date with a doona, but I'll post the reveal tomorrow morning.  Will anybody else crack it?

Hint #2:  The solution relates to the players' surnames.

  • Author

Just the three Demonlanders clever enough to realise that ... drumroll ... all the players in my team share a surname with that of a Brownlow Medallist.

B:       Marcus Whelan     Kevin Murray     Paul Kelly

H/B:  Bill Morris     Ian Stewart     Simon Black

C:       Len Thompson     Colin Watson     Bernie or Ross Smith

H/F:   John Schultz     Peter Moore     Nathan Buckley

F:       Denis Ryan     Roy Wright     Robert Harvey

R:       Neil Roberts     Herbie Matthews     Brian Wilson

I/C:    Brian Gleeson     Greg Williams     Allan Hopkins     Di ck Reynolds

OR, for some weird reason, it didn't come through to my feed until just now...

Well done you other smartypantses.

I may have gone the Brownlow route but totally blanked on Marcus Whelan as one 😐

Ha, ha. I was the same. When I messaged Demonstone, I said that I didn't think Marcus Whelan won a Brownlow.

@Demonstone, two weeks between games so is it time for another brain teaser?

Special request:  give us some advance notice of when it goes up so I can make sure I get to see it.  TIA.

Seconded.

Thank you for the support.

I do have a couple up my sleeve and was planning on unleashing the first of those this week.

What are Demonlanders' preferences -  Tuesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon or Sunday afternoon?

A slight preference for a weekday, thank you.  But happy to go with what others would like, just a heads up on when it will appear is enough for me.

Let's say around 4pm on Thursday arvo then, at a time we're usually looking forward to team selection.

I've come up with a particularly devious teaser and I look forward to baffling/exasperating all contributors.  :D

You do without even trying😃

Well played @Lucifers Hero, and welcomed response @Demonstone. I hope it is particularly particularly devious as I'll be otherwise engaged at 4 on Thursday and will be hoping at least Bronze is still available by the time I can get to it!

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

  • GAMEDAY: Sydney

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
