Demonland Meets the Cup

Any tips for those of us going on the weekend? I assume there was a lot of queuing involved.

We were scheduled for the 10am morning slot. We got to the G about 9:35 and walked to gate 3.

There were about 10 or 15 people already lined up QR coding and showing their vax status.

They were already letting people in one group at a time to show your ticket at the box office inside.

We then proceeded into the museum and went directly to line up for the cup. We manage to get ahead of a few people as they were checking out some of the Museum exhibits. Only about 10 people in the cup line in front of us.

The line progresses fairly quickly. I guess it depends on how many people in your group want an individual photo and then a group one. We had 4 in our group so it will take a little longer than an individual. They don’t hurry you along but it’s not like you get to take the cup out on a date. You take it in, take a snap and move on.

When it’s your turn they give you an antiseptic wipe to wipe your hands. I’m not sure if that’s to protect the cup, protect you or protect others.

You have to wear a mask in the museum but can take it off for the photo.

As mentioned earlier you are told you can touch but not lift the cup.

So in summary my best advice is to get there early particularly if you are in the morning group. I think we had had our photo before the actual start time of 10am.

No touchy for me. I’m not worthy.

My unexpected thought seeing it in person is it’s bigger than I thought. It is a damn big trophy. A6B25200-6FCF-4555-A62D-63EC60D812AE.thumb.jpeg.0b5e58b98ef390a33b19b1015dbcdec1.jpegEB587CAB-00AB-4B80-B4B5-C7335060A8C3.thumb.jpeg.b1c0600e6365afaa359a90fec315e200.jpegCED576A6-1BE9-4DDE-A051-52989C73E823.thumb.jpeg.4619a90c6a5a29c4744ad1e73deb3db3.jpeg

You look like one of the most under rated guitarists of the last 20 years or so Steve Craddock. Are you Steve?

Judging by my guitar skills, I'm not him.

Of course you're worthy.
The boys won that thing for us.
Shoulda grabbed it with both hands.

It's strange but I feel happier having seen it but not touched it than holding it for 5 seconds for a photo.

This is a dumb question but where are the other 12 cups housed? Are they kept at the MCG if so where? In the MCC?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
