It's not Popes (unless there was a Pope Brian somewhere along the line), Knights of the Round Table, Aussie Governors-General, or elements of the periodic table.

I feel like I've been hoisted by my own Ricky Petterd here as I haven't a clue what the answer is.

Kudos to Timothy.  If Mazer has won the gold medal, I'd be lucky to earn rusty tin.

Is the clue the use of the word Sir?

At risk of treading on TR-A'B's toes, here's a clue: TR-A'B has already given a clue.

Tread away, Mazer! We'll get that Tin medal awarded yet!

Not just a clue, unless you had a particular one in mind, Mazer; at last count I think it's four. Am I pushing the boundaries there do you think, Mazer?

There's been a couple of half chances, too...

Just a show of respect to the man, I'm afraid, EO

The "sir" has got nothing to do with it.

The recent clues provided by TR-A'B have been absolute long hops.

its got to be something about cricket

Yes, because he mentions “slips” and “half chances.”

If it’s not cricket-related, I think it’s number-related. I reckon 22 of a squad of 33 is a clue, as is his comment to Mazer about “last count it was four.” ?

Methinks this is also a clue (?)

NOW you're all talking! (though nothing mathematical, I'm afraid, WCW) Coming from behind, dare I say!

It's another cricket reference.  A long hop is a delivery that is short, slow and doesn't rise very high and which is easy pickings for the batsman - fruit for the sideboard, as the saying goes.

I've come up with two possible answers to this pearler of a mindbender with all these cricket clues.

1.  All the players named were cross-dressers and were caught in slips.

2.  Because of their footy fame, they had no trouble bowling a maiden over.

All listed were only good enough to play in the Third XI's at their school?

All played cricket at a minimum level? As in, district?

Quite possibly. The cryptic group, however...

Remember, Sir demonstone's team weren't drummers themselves (at least notably)...

And demonstone's team weren't sons of drummers either?...

Keep going though!

Yaaaaayyyyyyyy!

I had just drafted the following:

"I'm going to be the most hated poster on D-Land - to you select few - when this is finally over. But like the answer, I'll be well padded up for the rockets coming through to me!"

So glad it was you who got the Tin* you'd thought was lost to you, sir! Be gentle with me, all you others!

(*In the absence of success elsewhere, I had awarded Mazer the Medal box set?)

Explaining 'Tin'

I’m putting my 20 cent piece on the edge of the billiard table, so to speak. I have a team lined up.
Watch this space!

@Timothy Reddan-A'Blew - was the 33 indicative of how many keepers there have been for Australia?

Are they all snooker players? Hurricane Harmes? Fast Teddy Fidge?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
