Viney on Brink of Surprise Return

Featured Replies

Viney has a history of playing a blinder second game back, so if he plays this week who would that be against.

How are the consequences of it failing him early in a game against the Dogs, any more massive than it failing him in a VFL game and him being unable to take the field at all in the game against the Dogs?  If the sub for the Dogs game is the same person who would replace him in the team (if his toe failed him in the VFL), then nothing is really lost.  @leave it to deever, Viney has proven in the past that fitness has never been an issue for him, coming in after lengthy stints on the sidelines; so I doubt very much he would have any trouble slotting in, from a fitness point of view.

My reasoning was the dogs is a massive game. If he has trouble with it in the dogs game in might not be so black and white. He may play the game without subbing out only at half his usual standard.

As for fitness you are correct in that Jvs fitness is unique but I dont think any players is that high they can slot back in to the highest standard after a fair absence least not the dogs game.

Anyway having said my two cents I do hope hes good to go even against the crows. The club will make the right call.

We have missed him.

We clearly need him back as our clearance work since he's been out has been lamentable. The work he does pushing blokes away and burrowing in for the pill allows Clarry and Tracc to be the sizzle we know they can be.
Up until now, we have covered for this with a defensive structure that has bled very few goals. It won't take much for someone to work out a way to cut through that. We need multiple strings to our bow, and getting Viney back regains the clearance part of that equation for us.

Viney has a history of rushing back. He is also has a history of playing a cracking first game back and then tapering. If he needs a run or to gain confidence to check it do at Casey. Then unleash him on the dogs.

It's a long season, I don't mind if they wait a few weeks and bring him back through casey.

No point risking him. I would be happy to give him half a game at Casey and see how he pulls up. These feet of his are an endless issue and we can’t afford flare ups in finals.

Agree, Jack can be his own worst enemy,  too selfless and courageous for his own good

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • GAMEDAY: Gold Coast

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
