I wouldn’t call him a Gun

He played in a Carlton Premiership that just about does it for me.

Yes, but once again, he didn’t become a gun forward for the rest of his career.

I guess I’m looking for a Mal Michael type career... but going from the backline to the forward line.

He played 3-4 season as a key forward and was average... then became a backman and dominated.

I don’t think there is a player that’s been mentioned that has played 2+ seasons as a key defender and then gone forward and been an absolute gun player. Point being, it’s weird how there are at least 6-7 players in the last 20 years (that I can name) at least that have done a few average seasons as forwards and then become gun backmen.

Are you trying to be obtuse. DAVID NEITZ. Look at his record. Possibly the best defender of his generation and a Coleman medallist. I think he qualifies.

He was also All Australian CHBack

Yes, he was a gun defender.  His move forward was forced by the injury to Schwarta...

Not trying to be obtuse at all. I’m not asking if any gun defenders became gun forwards. I’m asking if there have been any average defenders who became gun forwards, which I can’t think of any and I find it curious as there’s quite a few avg. forwards who went back and totally changed their careers.

Average forwards to absolute gun defenders, there seems to be more than a few, so why not the other way?

Sorry BoBo,  I misunderstood your original post.

I can think of one (above) average defender who went forward (very briefly) and won our team a premiership! I'd be prepared to call him a gun forward, but I might be biased.

Number 5 has a similar name to a motor racing comentator and regular poster here?

Rated by Wayne Carey as the best CHB he ever played on. A very talented footballer and leader out Neiter.

I know this is is a direct quote from Carey, but I find it a weird one. He did once manage 31 disposals, 15 marks and 11 goals lined up on Neitz. I can only assume the other duels were tougher.

Loved Neita, but it's probably fair to say that Jakovich had him covered as the best CHB of the era.

CHF/ FF are probably the hardest positions to play on the ground. Key position forwards have always been much harder to find than key position defenders. Plenty of forwards are capable defenders, but not so much vice-versa.

Fortunately for us, apparently North weren't aware of this during last years trade period.
