IN's & OUT's for Next Week V Hawthorn

Featured Replies

Bartram should be kept in the team for this week. Only changes for me would be Wheels, McLean, Yze. Miller cant be replaced easily. Although he is garbage, he cant help it being faced with balls kicked at his feet and we shouldnt expect him too. Oh and the other out would be ND...in Gary Lion

A pyschologist to be bought in to address the players on the topic - "You are not playing pass the parcel with an atomic bomb".

As for changes replacements will be needed for Maclean and possibly Whelan for starters.

Then where do you start given the insipid mediocrity of Friday night. I can't see the logic in blaming the young players in the team when Cameron Bruce is repeatedly beaten by Jason Blake and othe notables such as Johnstone, Yze, White and Mcdonald have shockers. Unfortunately you can't drop them all!

Can't see the point in dropping Bartram, particularly with Whelan likely to be missing. Miller was horribly out of sorts but then again the delivery to him was awful. Maybe a spell at Sandy might give him back some confidence. Dunn is still out injured so he can't play at CHF. I'd go for Paul Johnson, a genuine big unit, athletic and has good skills but needs to improve his marking. Could he also play down back ahead of Benny Holland, too often the opposition allows Benny to get free because they know he won't hurt them by hand or foot. They couldn't do the same to Johnson. With Rivers would add class to defence.

Not sure about Bizzel and Brown. I would have thought Bizz's chance would have been this week with Rivers missing. Played his best footy as an undersized CHB, not sure he is mobile enough for a flank given the increased speed of the game. Brown's disposal and use is ordinary.

Outs: Maclean (inj). Whelan (inj/sus?), Miller, Holland

In: Rivers, Johnson, Pickett (if fit), ?

First we need to drop daniher

why is evry one having a go at miller!!! he cant do much when they refure to honour his leads and continue to handball around the defencive 50. alot of occations last night miller made mulitiple leads and the players on the half back line chose to handball to someone in traffic rather that try to hit millers lead.

leave him alone unitll he fails to perform given a half decent opportunity from our midfield and half back line

no pickett?

easy fix

Pickett in

Yze out

:-)

mclean and whelan are definate outs

do we need to disrupt the team balance further??

pickett and rivers into the team will be suffice

Well said Chook......

But lets be honest he really must be blamed for everything around here.

I realise he was not great and made some mistakes, but he certainly didn't cost us the game & was so far from being our worst.

Maybe we could turn our high powered critical opinions (and bias) towards another target, just for a change?

I think this horse is dead.

Drop Ben Holland? Sounds like a plan. We may as well drop Robbo too, I saw him drop a mark last night, and David Neitz missed an easy goal in that last quarter too. Drop him for Michael Newton who at least knows how to kick goals. For that matter, Travis Johnstone got thrashed by Baker, give him a run in the VFL to get some form too.

B: Brown Carroll Holland

HB: Bell Rivers Ferguson

C: Johnstone Moloney Jones

HF: Robbo Miller Green

F: Davey Neitz Bate

R: White McDonnald Bruce

I.C: Jamar, C.Johnson, Pickett, Ward

Emm: Wornock, Godfrey, Buckley

Out: Bartram, Yze, McLean, Whelan

7 changes? Gees, when was the last time Neale made 7 changes in one week?!

Besides, it's just one loss, lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Out: McLean (inj.), Whelan (if inj.)

In: Rivers, Buckley/Pickett

Again Miller is the scapegoat, which is completely unjustified. Our forwards got shocking delivery all night, and Daniher admitted that our midfield just refused to go through Milsy, despite him presenting all night.

He won't get dropped.

Yze buys himself another week because he didn't shirk any contests.

OUT: McLean, Whelan (injured) Yze, Miller

IN: Rivers, Pickett, Ferguson, Buckley

B - Bell Carroll Bartram

HB - Rivers Ferguson C.Johnson

C - Johnstone Moloney Green

HF - Robertson Holland Pickett

F - Davey Neitz Bate

R - White Bruce McDonald

I/C - Jamar Jones Buckley Ward

Holland at CHF to cover the gap, and no obvious matchup for him in the hawks forward line

Rivers on Franklin

Buckley to debut

Goodbye Yze and Miller

Do you think its case of his teammates realising what you are not? They know if they kick to Miller he will lose a contested situation. He just fails to win the pill in a contest. He shouldnt have to wait until he takes easy uncontested marks on the wing 80 metres from goal. Oppositions must love giving Miller those no man's land possession because they know he will vacillate over his disposal options and take an age to pick the wrong option. Furthermore he shows as much on field presence as spirit at a seance.

He is proven failure at CHF. I'd even consider Holland or God forbid Ferg there. PJ's out. Still has proved that he can mark.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble about big unit Paul, but to say he could hold down CHF at AFL level is a bit of a stretch. He hasn't shown much at Sandy in the forward line yet, I would take a bad Miller over PJ any day of the week at the moment. Paul's best position is still Ruck and I doubt he has played anytime in defense for a very long time, we can't expect anything more of him at the moment than being our buckup Ruckman.

The only unforced change I would like to see is Bizz in for Yze, Bizz has shown good form in the preseason and is very handy forward and back. I don't think it's time for any radical changes just yet.

Out: McLean (inj), Miller

In: Pickett, Rivers.

Holland to CHF.

Bizzell in to bolster the defence if need be, for either Whelan (inj/susp) or CJ/Bell.

I think that's close but I would not blink if Yze got dropped for Brown. At least you would know Brown would give his all and not shirk a contest. Yze's time is up.

Fair sense in that.

We should bring in Bizzel for Holland.... Holland just gives us no drive as soon as he is given the ball any forward thrust is slowed up and his kicks always go to a dangerous situation.. Bizzel played his best footy 2002/2003 when given the responsibility of playing on a much taller player and running off.....

at the moment we seriously lack drive from the backline bring in Bizzel and Rivers, those of you who said CJ should be dropped are wrong.. sure he wasnt great but i think he needs to be played on the wing... he was all over the shop last night forward and back but never on the wing.

OUT: MCLEAN, WHELAN, HOLLAND

IN: BIZZEL, RIVERS, PICKETT

Under no circumstances should Nathan Brown be in.. he is just like Ward but can only kick 40 metres so stick with Ward who wasn't too bad last night....

Fair sense in that.

Agreed.

It's time to welcome the Biz back with open arms. Rivers will return too and Byron is desperately needed.

Looking at the first 3 quarters of Hawks v Lions, they rival us for poor footy in round 1. They've kicked 18 points in 3 quarters.

I don't mind that idea of putting Brown in for Ooze. I wouldn't like to speculate on whether it'll happen, Yze did get a lot of possessions compared to many on the ground, though he was as appalling as just about anyone.

I'd like to see Bartram given more time in the VFL(though I love seeing his name on the team-sheet). I'm convinced he's not quite right. I was stunned to see his name come up. That said, he didn't have a lot of time to get ready having played for Sandy earlier in the week.

The following shouldn't get a shot at round two, but probably will for various reasons:

Davey (history/reputation)

Bruce (talent, important to the team)

Jamar (who else?)

Miller (who else?)

Yze (lot of possessions, lack of replacements)

Then there were a few that you can excuse partially because of making at least some effort, but being too young and inexperienced to get the team anywhere on the day:

Bate (Tried hard, will get a second week but I'll be watching him)

CJ (Did some good things and earned more than one week given his big pre-season)

Bell (Worked his arse off)

My god. There's any number of changes they could ring in.

Biz in for any one of about 3 defenders, take your pick. Rivers in for Ooze perhaps? Pickett for McLean. Brown for bartram?

Jeez, I dunno. I'm comfortable for many things to change, but I want to see a different game-plan. That's really the only thing.

My dream team would be happy if we picked Bizzell, considering I bought him for cheap. From a real world POV though I'd be surprised if he was picked over Holland. You're just swapping one liability for another there. Deck chairs on the Titanic and all that.

If Pickett is fit, he should come in in favour of Yze. If not Pickett then Brown.

I'd like to bring back Hardeman who played his best footy in 1976/77...........

Geez, 4 to 5 years is a long time in footy to rely on form. Especially when in 2004/2005 Bizz failed miserablyconsistently and then had last year out of the side.

I'd only pick Bizzell if there was a ready match up for him in the Hawks. He is too short for a KPP and too slow and unaccountable for a shorter quaicker player.

Bizzell might not be a KPP but it gives us plenty of rebound and another experienced head won't go astray in defence.

Friday night was the worse I've seen us play for a long time and I think we should make plenty of changes.

In: Bizzell, P Johnson, Rivers, Sylvia, Warnock, Wheatley

Out: Holland, McLean (inj), Miller, Ward, Whelan (inj), Yze

Hawthorn have a young gun forward line and I think we need to match it with a young gun defence. There is no match up for Holland.

B: C.Bizzell, N.Carroll, M.Warnock

HB: D.Bell, J.Rivers, P.Wheatley

C: T.Johnstone, C.Bruce, B.Green

HF: M.Bate, P.Johnson, C.Sylvia

F: A.Davey, D.Neitz, R.Robertson

FOLL: J.White, B.Moloney, J.McDonald

I/C: C.Bartram, M.Jamar, C.Johnson, N.Jones

Melbourne

Backs:........... Whelan ...Carroll .....Bell

Half-backs:..... Bruce .....Rivers ......C Johnson

Centres:......... Moloney..Johnstone..Bate

Half-forwards:. Pickett. ...Miller .......Robertson

Forwards:....... Yze ........Neitz ........Green

Followers:........White .....Jones .......McDonald

Interchange: Jamar Bartram Holland Davey

Emergencies: Brown Wheatley P Johnson Bizzell Ward

I don't think their gunna play Sylvia yet because he only played to 3Qtr time then removed his boots & sat on the bench for the remainder of the game, there's an 8 day break till Easter Monday.

Out: McLean,

and change my nickname

But it is legendary

not as legendary as the man himself..... maybe u should remember that...

Agreed.

please explain.... i dont think u can.... very very silly thing to say

yze got possesions but was appaling as anyone ???? .... i love ur pathedic statments u come up with WEEK in week out RR....

Miller tried hard and if anyone thinks he should be dropped, obviously doesnt want him to ever perform at AFL level.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
