2020 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

As he matures, the versatile Salem continues a steady progression towards him becoming one of the team’s leading lights. Disposal by foot always a highlight.

Date of Birth: 15 July, 1995

Height: 183cm

Weight: 81kg

Games MFC 2020: 16

Career Total: 106

Goals MFC 2020: 2

Career Total: 21

Votes 2020 Keith 'Bluey' Truscott Memorial Trophy: 208 (seventh)

Salo had a good, consistent year.  He is good one-on-one, reads the play well, and has elite disposal, but I keep waiting for him to take his game to the next level.  I reckon he has it in him, but I'm just not sure it will happen.  Seventh in the 'Bluey' was about right imo.  7/10 from me.

Actually had one of his better seasons and it was a big improvement on his 2019.

As Deeoldfart mentioned above, he's a 7/10 player but I'm unsure if he can take his game to a higher level at half back flank.

Needs to be utilised more around our forward 50 arc as some of his low dart shots at goals are a thing of beauty.

I feel that Christian Salem is one of our un sung heroes, we see what he does and can do, we just want more.

Come on Christian satisfy our cravings..!!!

Christian Salem  goes quietly along as he plays his role .  His silky skills are excellent however his foot skills are exquisite kicking to position. He is a gem to watch.

Didn't you notice in the last 6/7 games Salo IMO did take a leap in form Notably  urgency In play more speed and quicker disposal plus extra work around the half Forward  area .

Even  kicked a couple If goals which he deserved through his run and carry.

Still believe he can find one more gear yo ho from that B+ yo maybe an A-.

Gets hoping and I believe he should be at HFF fir maximum use if his ability and elite disposal skills.

Heres hoping Yze can get that extra gear!!!

By my calculations Salem is now the sixth longest serving player on the list, but he still seems happy to just coast along and be a good solid role player.

I hope he has watched Petracca's progression towards being an elite player and really dedicates himself to maximising his ability over the next couple of seasons.

I believe he has the ability, but don't believe he has the desire.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

  • POSTGAME: North Melbourne

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
