In terms of pure talent I think we have them covered by a huge margin. Unfortunately the evidence is suggesting we may have yet another group who don't go so well when things get tough. The Hawks culture thrives under the idea that their competitiveness can outdo the talent of the opposition. Ours does not.

The fact that Hawthorn won 11 games last season was one of Clarkson's greatest feats. By rights that list should have sat in the bottom 4 with no more than 5 wins. They compete in an envious way.

disagree. they're list isn't made up of nobodies or just young talent. they have plenty of left over premiership players and have brought in some very experienced players. they look about a mid table side. 3rd oldest side in the league should not be down the bottom..

So much of the hope in our club depends on TMac either returning to form as a top forward or at least us creating a cohesion that means we kick a winning score. Our forward and midfield are on two different planets right now, doesn't help that our accuracy on goal is terrible.

IMO, we could take T and O Mac out of the team - both cannot perform as required. The two of them have received enormous, patient advantages over the rest of the list. Both are allegedly 'key position' players that we know can do much better on the footy field than what has been produced across the past two years - and often - quite a bit longer in terms of form slumps and aptitudinal lapses. Is this a problem with the players themselves or is it a coaching/Goodwin malaise?

It is not just about personal and raw potential at the two Clubs. It is about which Club has  the culture and knowlege to win a Premiership. Even if and when we have the personal and coaching panel in place it might still take 2-3 years as a top 4 team to do it, and yes i know there have been exceptions like the young Bulldogs, but against that look at the other Sydney mob.

I know there is something to be said about being a one club coach, especially with his record. If hypothetically this year is another disaster, the only current coach I'd really be desperate for us to nab would be him.

Or Ooze. His game day strategist.

Ooze is one of my favourite all time players, but like Goodwin does he have the necessary minerals to win when the chips are down?

Let alone a Premiership.
