Ha! I wasn’t sure if anyone on here would have heard of Govan’s finest waster. Never used a chip fryer myself as I’d be terrified of burning the house down.

As long as I have access to good quality coffee, beer and craic during this break in proceedings I’m sure I’ll come out the other end with my sanity intact.

Back in the 90’s I had a Scottish friend boarding at my house for about 5 years. He used to mail import numerous  Rab VHS tapes and hosted raucous Rab TV nights for his Scottish friends which I also enjoyed immensely. One of the funniest TV shows I have ever watched. Comparable to Alf Garnett in Death do us Part.

I'm a little surprised you could understand what they were saying. Up where I'm from we speak a dialect called Doric which is very distinct and anything south of Aberdeen just sounded English to me to be honest. Weegies (Glaswegians) however can have a really rough sounding tongue (the same as Rab) and even I have to concentrate to make out everything he's saying.

If you've ever read any of the tartan noir novels by Ian Rankin, the main character DI John Rebus always calls Aberdeen furry boot town because we're always saying 'farraboots' which just means whereabouts?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
