We absolutely need some developing young talls. It takes years to develop a ruck or tall KPF. Gawn will be done in 4 years. Bradke could make it who knows. Preuess is ok cover for Gawn.
the key is to draft kids with Some football talent even if raw or not fit.

Last 3 years:

Melb 69 Games for 33wins and 36 losses = 47.8% wins

With Gawn playing 59 games for 27wins and 32 losses = 45.7% wins

Without Gawn 10 games for 6 wins and 4 losses = 60% wins

Given we have an excellent backup option already, plus a backup to the backup. And given our win loss ratio is better when gawn doesn’t play. Not sure a backup to the backup to the backup is required.

Most of those games we won without Gawn were in 2017 when Pedersen was in a purple patch. The reason that worked was that it was something different that other teams struggled to combat. Putting in an inferior Gawn clone (ie Preuss) is unlikely to have the same impact. If we think Tomlinson can pinch hit as number 1 ruckman for a few weeks if Gawn does get injured, then we can probably survive.

No need for another ruckman as Austin Bradtke is now the size of three normal sized ruckmen combined

He looks like he has built up heaps since seeing him at Casey just months ago.

If Bradtke can play footy like his Dad played basketball, we're on a winner. Not sure where his development is at.

Wasn't really impressed with Preuss last year. Was anyone? I think we gave him a four year contract, need to see whether he improves I guess.

Still really like the look of Jackson

No No No don't waste a pick on another ruckman. Outside mids and small forwards are what we need. Gawn, Preuss and Bradtke are enough.

Last 8 flags ruckmen

2012 Mumford started at another club

2013 Max Bailey home grown Hawthorn dud

2014-15 McEvoy started at another club

2016 Jordan Roughead now at another club and no longer a ruckman

2017 and 19 Nankervis started at another club

2018 Lycett now at another club

It's an uninspiring list.

Yeah, let’s draft another ruckman. Our depth would be great with Gawn and Preuss running around in the VFL

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
