Since scoring is down, channel 7 won't be happy.

I can only assume that there'll be more rule changes to "fix" this around half way through the season.

They won't change the rule mid-season. They'll just change the interpretation.  Will be intriguing to hear the AFL's  weasel-words.

Not sure how they could possibly change the interpretation of something as simple as 6-6-6. I'm sure if enough advertising dollars are at stake they'll give it a bash though, you'r probably right. Maybe they'll increase the amount of warnings for violating the rule from 1 to unlimited. That way the rule stands, but teams can just ignore it. The fact that there's a warning system at all and not just a free kick is idiotic anyway, might as well extend the idiocy.

The warning system is a joke for incorrectly setting up 6-6-6. After Gold Coast hit the front with 10 seconds to go they lined up with only one player on a wing. The far wing had no Gold Coast player. What’s the point of giving a team a warning with 10 seconds to go?

AFL - Rule clarification--- "In fine tuning the 646 rule we have instructed the umpires to enforce the 16 players per side  and for all players to wear Toyota Hi Lux - bibs designating the area of the ground that they must stay in. The 45 player NAB - we won't rip you off interchange bench will be relaxed to include an additional 5 Virgin concussion subs. The Bet easy polo ponies will now only be permitted in the Thrifty defensive 100 meter zone unless the team captain plays her wild card which will obviously also include 35 point super duper Big Mac value meal goals. It is vitally important to us to maintain the integrity of our game and that is why we would never introduce new rules without a thought bubble. This announcement was brought to you by Marvel , marvelous what an indifference marvel makes!"

That is correct DZ.  At some point the clubs have had enough warnings and time to adjust.  It's then an instant penalty.  But the AFL couldn't even get that right.  Which is probably why they have the rediculous warning...penalty too harsh!  Why 50 meters?  Free kick from the middle would be sufficient and see the umps more than happy to enforce the penalty IMO.

Given Gil and Hocking seem obsessed with non-football entertainment, it's only fair to point out that I found it highly entertaining in the Essendon game when the umpires panicked the second time Essendon didn't have a wingman at a centre bounce. Turned out that Essendon only had 17 players on the ground at the time. The poor umpires were completely befuddled. And the game was delayed for about a minute for no good reason.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
