MELBOURNE

The Demons made it all the way to the Preliminary Final in 2018 before being thumped by the eventual premiers. However, with one of the greatest players in the competition at their disposal, Max Gawn’s ruck dominance could well help the club push into the top two. Fox Footy analyst David King is among those who believe the new rules could help the Demons dominate and if Clayton Oliver has yet another dominant season, all signs point to improvement from Melbourne.

uncanny - i'd be thinking 100% of people who care for football would be doing this also.

Three teams ranked as 1-5.

MFC, Richmond and WCE.

Boy we are in rarified company.

Could this be it guys ? ... nervous just thinking about it

The first three games will be crucial. Port, Geelong and Essendon. We are favourites in all three and need to win them. Last year we would have said they are 50/50 games but this year they are more like 60/40

I was surprised that Collingwood was only rated 2-5.

I said it last night on the podcast that never in my life have we had so much hype surrounding us. Never have 9 out of 22 herald sun "expert" had us for premiers. Almost all had us as Top 4. That is unheard of. Dare to dream.

Not to be the voice of doom but the last 3 years the majority of pundits have had GWS as flag favourites and they haven’t even made a GF yet...

...and if we loose 2 out of the first 3 games just watch all those so called 'footy experts' do a 180 and start asking "maybe we have all overrated Melbourne on the back of their finish to last year, because the way they are playing right now, forget top 4, they will be lucky to make the finals" ...which will all still just be as Goody and @In Harmes Way suggest 'Fugazi'. Demonland would go into a total melt down of negativity as well.  That's the delayed onset MFCSS in me.

That all said, I will be so totally stoked if we have a dream start to the season and give ourselves a great platform from which to solidify a top 2 - 4 position over the rest of the season in a manner like West Coast did last year.  The has been one or two occations that I recall in my lifetime which the MFC had a good start to the season and we're sitting on top of the ladder after half a dozen games or so - gee that was a nice feeling at the time.

Must say I like the approach of this article in predicting ranges where they think teams will end up.  So much can happen during the course of the season, that only fools would think they could pick the exact ladder position that most teams could finish.  The safest bet would probably have been for GC and Carlton to finish last and second last, but right no, St Kilda look like they might even enter that mix as well.

Last year had to explain to a Chinese friend what "keeping a lid on it" meant. He's a mad Collingwood supporter. ( I know, that's a whole other story). Mind you, he didn't know what "Colliwobbles" was either. Happy to explain that to him! Had to remind him about keeping a lid on it recently. Just not comfortable being one of the favourites!

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
