I'm not sure it's the colour per se that is different but perhaps the fact that the material has a sheen to it and is not made of wool that may be the visual difference.

yeah, you might be right on that

I don't mind the new clash strip. I have seen the great Robbie Flower play in it, and every time I see it I think of him.

Yes, me too. In my mind's eye I always picture Tulip wearing the royal blue jumper

Caro wrote an article in the Age last year after the Toigs won the flag. It summed up beautifully how they put an emphatic full stop on the Graeme Richmond/Ian Wilson era and the now obsolete thinking of that era.

The story was that prior to the 2017 Granny, Ian Wilson was on the blower to Brendan Gale. It seemed that the fact that the Tiges had to wear their away strip on the big day was a source of angst for Octa and he tried to get Gale to get the club to run out on the big day in their normal strip. He felt that all they needed to do was play along then run out in their predominantly black strip without telling the league. They would then pay the fine later.

However, something strange happened. Benny shot it down. Why pick battles over such inconsequential things was the mantra and Richmond ran out in their yellow strip.

It was because the Tigers finally gave up on fixating on their 'culture' and 'the way things should be done' that they finally moved into the modern era. This willingness to leave their past behind was not just demonstrated here but also in the fact they have supported Dimma (and it just wasn't lip service this time) and the board challenge of 2016 was basically laughed out the door.

While I can acknowledge a preference for the navy blue, I think as a club and supporter base, we need to be focused on winning. For too long, I feel we have been too hung up on jumper and logo designs, captains who 'speak well in front of the media', personality clashes from 20 years ago and not enough on what goes on on the ground.

That's my 20 cents anyway.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
