Yep.  Always good to see our guys in the news for the right reasons.  A lot of the guys seem to do a lot for the community, and they should be commended for it.

Well done, Nev!

There is life after football for Neville.

Seems like a no nonsense guy from my one meeting with him.

Nev is the quintessential quiet achiever on and off the field.  The last thing he would expect is awards for his community work.  Nev won the club 'Ambassador Award' for his community work last year so he would be short odds to win it again tomorrow night.

I reckon he will be very proud to be nominated for the Stynes award given the connection with the club and the great community work example that Jimmy set.  Well done for the nomination.

He is a proud indigenous man who wants to give back, the Juvenile Justice Centre is actually Jeff Garlett's, Nev embraced it along with a few of the other players when Jeff arrived at the Club     he is also proud of the best practice process for indigenous players at Footy Clubs that he and Shaun Burgoyne are involved in producing

Has a very dry sense of humour when you get to know him

Good to see that Jetts has been nominated for the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award, which is presented on Brownlow night.

His work, which saw him pick up the MFC Club Ambassador Award at the B&F for the second consecutive year earlier this week, includes:

* work with the Red Cross;

* the Juvenile Justice Centre;

* the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School;

* Headspace in Western Australia during the off-season; and

* as an ambassador for Melbourne University's Indigenous Eye Health Unit supporting trachoma.

He also works with the Neville Jetta Squad at the Dandenong Stingrays, which gives footballing opportunities to players born overseas or of Indigenous heritage.

Pretty impressive resume given the time commitments on modern players.

Hope he gets the nod.

Edit: Not sure why I created a new thread for this when I'd already 'liked' an earlier thread announcing the good news.. :huh:

Probably my favourite player and seems like a terrific bloke off the field. To think where he was even 4 years ago is simply astounding and a credit to his maturity and determination. Well done Jetts and I hope he wins the award.
