THE LAST TIME THEY MET

Melbourne was expected to beat St Kilda in their return game at the MCG against the team that had stolen victory in the dying moments when they met a month or so earlier. The Demons failed miserably.

Well, that explains why he's kicking so many goals. He's been merged.

We owe them a few and I think we have the ammo. I am confident that the team will bring the effort necessary.  The hoodoo at Etihad has gone.

And do we also attach some importance to our defeat of them (and at Etihad) in the Challenge (the actual last time we met:))?

St Kilda is to us as we are to Richmond.

I won't go into this one as (quietly) confident I have been the last two rounds. The word is Montagna and Riewoldt may miss due to injury and they normally have an outing when they play us. Unfortunately I won't be able to watch this one live but will be checking in to see how Petracca goes.

Agreed. If we learnt anything from the Essendon game, it's not to crow early. We seem to find ways to lose there.

I believe we are much fitter than ever or at least our midfield is. The intensity at the ball as well as numbers to the contest has increased dramatically. I say we are a very good chance to beat the saints even at ethiad. We.have broken the ethiad voodoo.

Great mateship culture developed as well.

To put it in simple coaching parlance: They are hungry to win.

We looked comfortable against them in the pre-season, but that really counts for little during the real games.  While many of us have questioned the overall quality of their list, especially the younger players, there is no doubting the effort they put in on game day.  We know that we'll struggle to get free players when in possession and that they'll run like hell to try to outspread us when they have it.  We need to maintain our composure, keep moving the ball rapidly and cleanly and not let them run free midfielders into their attacking 50 for uncontested shots on goal.  If we can manage to prevent their running efforts from resulting in easy goals we'll be ok

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
