Casey Scorpions v Williamstown @ Casey Fields

I think Mark Stevens had the good mail when he tweeted ~

So how is Howe a "lock" to play against the Suns when he hasn't played in a practice match?

Pretty sure i read an article that quoted P Roos saying that he was a good chance even though he hasnt played. Think it was news.com? maybe afl website.

Here it is. http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/jeremy-howe-firms-as-round-1-starter-for-melbourne-bernie-vince-races-the-clock-to-be-fit/story-fndv8pdq-1227281227675

Vandenberg is out there and had a good 2nd quarter. I think he will play next week. Gut feel.

Best players for the half:

Smith, vince, Brayshaw and JKH

Great to hear. Vince adds much needed class to our midfield and I'm really excited about what JKH can bring, reckon he transforms our forward line alongside Garlett. Made a couple of seriously smart plays against the dogs.

And that's half time: Casey Scorpions lead 4.4.28 to Williamstown 3.8.26

Goals Brayshaw Gawley Kennedy-Harris Smith

Thanks again KC and MNY 11 shots to 8 is that forward dominance?

Goodwin and McCartney watching on the far side of the ground, heard mccartney yelling instructions over the fence to brayshaw in the 2nd qtr, was good to see

The game is just plodding along as are much of the players. Vince is just getting run in his legs and looks far from the player he was last year. However it is his 1st game this year. Riley, Kent and Michie did nothing to warrant selection. JKH and Vandenberg look likely but need to be more consistent within the game itself. Brayshaw is the standout and is demanding a call up against the Gold Coast.

One more quarter to prove themselves. No wind to speak of.

Scores

Casey 6.7.43

Williamstown 5.11.41

Cheers Kc!

And MNY you need to go to more Casey games this year. Doing a tremendous effort!

Brayshaw already sounds a class above VFL level

Lock him in for ROund 1! Vince, Vanders and JKH too

contract year

So Brayshaw has been best on ground in 2 of his 3 Casey games - and was still named in the bests for the third game.

He's a good chance for round 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if we held him back until round 4 or 5.

Highlight of day so far was Brayshaw's goal and seeing a future father son prospect (Dunn's son)

talking of father/son is young billy stretch playing?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
