Demons' Jack Watts ready to take on the elite

Featured Replies

Both Watts & Trengove have to show some serious form this year. They just have to.

If they don't it is time for trade talks.

I hope they kick azz this year, but i will not call them champions until they become such.

6-5 years on the list respectively.

They simply have to perform. If Roos cannot get them both to influence games late in the last Quarter no one will

Neither will ever become champions or elite.

Good serviceable footballers that will need to be coached to work within their respective limitations.

Both lovely lads, though.

servicable does not equate to picks 1 or 2 in the draft.

Both these boys can play.

I saw Watts tear it up for Brighto Grammar on 2 occasions before he was picked.

It's upstairs where the coaching is needed. 2014 is the year we have to see some results.

Flawed logic, WYL.

Picks 1 and 2 don't necessarily equate to champions or elite status.

Tearing it up for Brighton Grammar? Don't go there......

I will stick up for Brighton Grammar. For the numbers they have, they are producing an extraordinary number of footballers. Yes, Robert Shaw has played a role but they have a strong set up.

Talk's cheap Jack.

Action in 2014 please.

OD have I got a deal for you!

I can supply a AFL player who can play 300 games of AFL plus kick 55 goals a season. h

How much would you,pay?

But wait, there more!

He can also a great public speaker!

He would make a great Captain!

No problem with the Grammar perse......I just don't rate APS competition.

Jumbo, I think you would be surprised as to the number of great players who have come through the APS.

Remember that Xavier, Caulfield and Geelong Grammar are all APS. Half of Sydney's tough nuts are from Xavier for starters. Add Judd from Caulfield.

Fair enough....I've always considered AGSV a better comp.

Parker was Hailebury. Goddard, Ball, Watson, Scott brothers.

Sandilands, Barlow, Langford, Hawkins, Newport.

In Perth, Wesley has had Cousins and Franklin.

Biffen, BBO and others,

If you continue to derail threads with your BS you will be banned and not welcome back.

Last warning. You will have no further warnings.

At the risk of a ban, I would have thought that the very nature of a topic thread will mean that it goes off topic at times. Some of the more interesting responses are when it actually does so. Certainly, the more humorous can stray. Can we perhaps take this into consideration? If someone wants to debate whether a comma should be in a thread title then let them. Otherwise, footy can be a little boring. The best football has characters and, I would imagine, so do the best footy forums. It doesn't have to be a safe haven for the self righteous.

They do. And Watts was rated the number 1 young footballer of 2008 because of his performances in that very comp.

Jumbo the excuses don't cut it anymore.

If only they were humorous.

The problem is incessant rambling, cluttering a thread with what I don't think even passes as comedy, so poor are the attempts.

It's just cringeworthy and makes everything more boring than it was otherwise.

Machsy, if we get rid of those who go off topic who are the overly smug going to complain about? A case in point: I thought Watts and Pendlebury played different positions in basketball. I was wrong but, as quick as you like, you were there to label me a twit. I have no problem with that but If we follow the letter of the law re abusing others, I'd have to think you'd have a spell on the sidelines. To tell you the truth, relentlese teeth grinders such as yourself shite me to tears. It's a footy forum.

Have a great day.

I'm not excusing them WYL.

All I'm saying is that draft position doesn't equate to 'elite' or 'champion' status.

They're average players, but lovely blokes.

Ordinary blokes and elite players would suit me better jr.

Jumbo, I understand the perception but I just don't think it holds water. I do agree tin that I have no interest in their public relations skills when the footy isn't up to scratch.

Me too RtG

I would like a few poor humans who can really play!

I'm clinging onto something here.....please let me have it.

The bloke who I hope changes perceptions is Salem. From the little I've seen, he plays like each game may be his last. Hopefully, this is replicated at senior level.

So it shows that "tearing it up" in APS is a far cry from making the grade in AFL (unsurprisingly so).

Still better to dominated at some level than not (usually).

They have punched above their weight in recent seasons, at least as far as producing AFL players is concerned.

So the club chose them because they are top blokes?

Sorry but i expect number 1&2 Draft picks to be able to play the game to a very high standard.

If not the MFC really stuffed it up incredibly, Which i agree is possible.

I'm being facetious, as I'm trying to cling to any positives I can find.

2014 is the Year of the Horse....Longmire (Horse) coaches Swans....Roos coached Swans = premiership....Roos coaches Dees = premiership? *Sigh* Mebbe for Longmire.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
