Dustin Martin

So will Caro now retract her scathing critique of Dusty and proclaim him as the reformed prodigal son? Doubt hugely that she'll continue her attack on him now that he's back in the fold. Rarely a harsh word to be said about her beloved Toiges.

Why should she? A 2 year deal is a limp endorsement of an alleged star.....all be it with a mountain of baggage.

FWIW, I am not sure what the Tigers have done wrong with Martin other than re sign him for less than the original offer.

Martin and his associates have shot themselves in the foot with their handling of this whole episode. His manager should be deregistered.

Has re-signed for less than toiges originally offered.....shrewd negotiating skills there for sure !!! what a fwit !!! lol

George Costanza like with his negotiating there lol

She canned Martin as a bad influence on the club and gave her blessing for him to move on. She painted a very poor picture of him in this article, where she bluntly alludes to the reason for his mess being "crystal clear"

Martin move best for Richmond

And now he's signed on again for 2 years, with no other club wanting to go near him.

Great spin by the tigers to claim victory by allegedly paying him about 10% less than first offered (big deal), nevertheless, they could not get what they wanted in return for a potential trade. What they did wrong was not offload him and get even a half decent draft pick in return. Hollow victory tigers.

So what's the beef with Caro then? She has painted Martin correctly as a talented but wayward social misfit. And other clubs aren't prepared to take the risk..on the ball.

The Tigers know Martin better than others. And at best they have the chance to get the best out of a talented footballer at a cheaper rate. At worst they have a troubled fool who has the capacity to destroy his career. He has shown himself unable to conduct negotiations in a mature and good faith manner. He has burnt a lot of bridges. If he fecks it up then Richmond can state they tried to support him through his career and did everything but poor Dustin couldn't etc etc..... And it's only for 2 years.

I don't think the Tigers have claimed a victory but negotiated itself through a difficult period with a high maintenance footballer.

I can't see what your hand wringing is all about.

Awesome article from Ms. Wilson and it just goes to show that a week or so is a long time in football!

RR, you must control your desire to defend CW at every turn . Moonshadow's poke at her was not based on the correctness of her assessment of DM. It is based on her being a blatant Richmond supporter, a bias a serious journalist should try to overcome. Read it again:

I cant see it as anything but a win for Richmond

1/ firstly and most importantly they best know the nature of the beast they are dealing with. He is already in their enviroment so they are best placed to manage him (IMO)

2/ they paid under the first offer for him

3/ they only gave him two years which means an inexpensive out if it all goes pear shaped.

The scathing condemnation should go to his manager.

Hyperbole sue.

Hey, I might change my name to that

Yes but he will make back the shortfall once he releases his new book "How to Successfully Negotiate Players Contracts in the AFL"

As clearly he a genius and us simple minded MFC Fans are not up to the task of understand his logic.

Don't bother Sue. You know what they say about arguing with a fool. Your assessment is spot on.

Did you see his haircut at the Richmond B&F???

This could be true, the counter says...

1/ they are using up a lot of resources managing a player that looks set to self explode

2/ reports now are they paid 480k, not much less than the original offer of 500k

3/ using a top 3 pick on an "inexpensive out" is expensive (even though we took $cully and Trenners at 1&2)

But you are absolutely correct in that his manager should be condemned.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
