Sides will be lining up to court Watt's services and most Demon fans would probably say off you go.

I personally think Jack Watts is one of the most talented up and coming players in the league.

Watts is good and will only get better - and much better.

I'm now also pro watts.

His skill and execution are first class.

If we can build a strong midfield in the next couple of years Watts will win games off his own boot regularly.

There are four big positives from this season and all were evident again tonight.

1) Colin Garland has become an elite defender. Picked up Ablett when he rested forward and really annoyed him.

2) Jake Spencer is now a player - it's not just that he works hard around ground, it's because unlike Jamar and Gawn, his hitouts actually find a target quite often (34% tonight from 41 hitouts).

3) Jack Viney - for obvious reasons. He had 24 disposals tonight and if Davis hadn't wiped him out in a marking contest he probably would have got 30.

4) Dean Kent - we needed a small goalscoring forward who tackles and has pace. We drafted Byrnes for the role, but got really lucky and ended up with Kent at pick 50 or whatever who is a long-term proposition. He still hasn't cracked 20 disposals in a game yet I don't think but he had 19 tonight.

You could probably add a fifth positive in Jack Fitzpatrick saving his AFL career in the past seven games - a very handy back-up for Mitch Clark next season.

The Jordie haters need to take a step back this week too - did a great job on Ablett.

Don't go too early on Spencer. His competitiveness to follow up the ball and get involved around the ground are great strengths. But Gawn is much more effective around the ground. He also can win a hit out that's for sure, but he was up against GC's 3rd string ruck in Gorringe. It's not like he did it against a senior ruck. Jamar and Gawn both would've had 40 or 50 hit out tonight as well. But I do agree Spencer provides the best value from his hit outs when he wins them.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do against Sandilands next week. A great test for him.

He also beat McEvoy and Brogan - so he's three from three. But yes he won't have the height for Sandilands and it will be interesting to see if his confidence around ground drops when he can't win the taps.

This preseason they need to keep that level of endurance up but concentrate on interval style fitness training (to get that explosiveness you are talking about) and skills, skills and more skills training.

You shouldn't be attacking the person trying to fix an issue, but should be attacking the person that created the issue.

But heaven forbid someone accuses the players or anyone else not associated with Neeld.

If you ever see Misson have a chat with him. Last time I saw him I asked how the program was going and he was brutally honest. The players don't have enough endurance and aren't physically up to standard. Makes it very difficult to fix this as all the improvement has to come from the preseason and if you don't balance weights and endurance well you'll end up like Essendon last year which will also impact their ability to improve their skills during the season.

His captaincy selection has been a mistake. There is no two ways about that. He's been dreadful ever since.

I forgot to mention this before, but our treatment of Ablett tonight was a step in the right direction. Mckenzie, with the help of others did a fantastic job. Actually having a plan before a game and implementing it correctly is bonus, in fact. (Almost) None of it was rightly paid a free kick against (even though the Fox commentators wouldn't shut up about the fact it should've been) and a great amount of aggression and care was shown. It'd be easy to accept Ablett for who he is and the skill he has, but nagging a player and keeping at them can really annoy them and put their mind off the game.

Little evidence that they work well together yet though. I'd more optimistic about them being among the best first rucks in the comp. Would love to see it happen though, although I could imagine Gawn would get more time inside 50

I have no issue with the idea that Grimes and Trengove are leaders, just watching them train you can tell they have the right sorts of qualities, my issue is that possibly the worst team of all time gave the captaincy to a 19 year old who we hoped would carry our side forward, i still fully believe he will be a very good player for us, but we had five players who imo would have been better captain candidates than Trengove at the time.

No issue as the players voted him in, i'm sure Neeld gave them a push in the right direction just imo, Frawley, Jones, Moloney, Rivers and even Bartram at the time would have been better options.

Honestly i wouldn't mind giving it to Garland, he is Mr Dependable, at the start of this year i didn't consider him AFL standard, but he has really improved, gives the list something to watch and see just what is possible if you're willing to put the work in.

I felt Grimes was playing some great footy before his injury and had really taken another step, and James Frawley is still very underrated if that's possible,

i think the stars are there on our list, we just need to boost our midfield and we will fly up the ladder, whether that comes from improvement of the players within or the players we bring in i'm not sure, i think an injury free pre season and Trengove will improve, Viney, Toumpas and Matt Jones will be better with another pre season under their belt.

Interesting to see every one praising Spencer when the vast majority had him as the worst player in the competition not that long back; perhaps some humble pie for a few?
