Talk to Eade NOW

Rodney Eade has just admitted tonight on AFL Footy channel's 360 that if Melbourne approached him he would be "interested in talking to them"... We should get serious and get the ball rolling NOW,,, If we don't we are not doing our job (again)

relax

of course we will be talking to him

Peter Jackson is not an i.diot

I wanted chocco but mainly because of ports dominate period and a flag but god I may have flipped after some remarks from roos... He said on the couch I would go for eade as he coached me and I learnt everything I know off him... Just thinking about it if we want roos so much eade should probably be in front

It should have been Eade last time...he wants the job and the club knows this.

Let's not fall into the same trap as we did with Neeld and Craig believing they were such hot property we had to act fast in case another club lands them.

Eade isn't being chased by anyone, we can take our time to get the right coach this time!

I want Melbourne to find a good proven coach and do so quickly.

In that case assuming that they are not already coaching - they could start planning for his immediate takeover come round 24 (or what ever it is these days).

In that case the coach will have had sufficient time to plan and study our list and formulate a stratergy/gameplan. This way we don't have a coach coming in and running around like a headless chook!

I don't want a coach to come in any earlier than our last game for the same reason - you can't just walk into the club during a season without being restricted and think it should be as soon as we finish our last game.

I think Collingwood have said that they won't make Eade (or any of their staff) available for interview until after the season has finished in order to minimise disruption to their players.

But I've got to say, looking at that clip from 360, it does look like he wants it.

Roos will end up being the man IMO.

Choco next in line.

Andddddd...Will we talk with Leigh Matthews!

I don't want to pay over the odds for a coach who only seems convinced by the money (Roos). I just don't thinkj his heart is in it. I would go for Eade. He seems the most level headed and has been reasonably successful at the dogs and Swans. I spent 8 years in Sydney and saw a lot of the Swans while he was in charge. They rarely put in a collective bad game effort wise. They might not have won all their games, but very very rarely could I say they didn't seem to have a dip, regardless of the result. That could have also been due to the type of players he had (Kelly, Kirk etc) but he also got the dogs playing well so whe must have something.

Eade has experience, seems to still have the desire and also appears to actually want the job. Ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Yeah after everything I have read in the last 24 hours, Eade does seem to be a very good candidate for us.

Totally agree with Roo's only doing it for the money. Media personalities make good money, so for him to leave his job it would have to be for a good amount. Then if we don't respond the way Roo's planned for us too, we will be looking for a new coach again in 18 months.

Definitely need an experienced proven coach wanting to take on the challenge. Eade, Williams or Clarkson would be extremely ideal.

Sorry but he does not have the right qualifications to become a MFC Senior Coach.

Too much experience, its much better to find someone and mould them to the way the MFC does business, just ask CW. DM or GL.

Rocket gets the bronze for mine.

Silver medalist as far as our targets go is Choco due to his flag, long term succes with Port, his ability to develop young players and his ability to sell the club.

Gold medalist is Roos for the hope he'd bring to the club and all things that Choco could also bring. Don't forget he ended the Swans 72 year drought. We're about to hit 50 years!

I am quite relaxed mate... but past history tells me we have been very slow and indecisive when an opportunity is staring us in the face.. No one is implying Peter Jackson is an idiot .He is a breath of fresh air to this club and it's about time someone is making an attempt to get rid of the negativity which has existed in this club for so long AND may I add from many of those "old School" stick in the muds on this site...

Roos is NOT available and NOT the right Guy.. He has already admitted Rocket taught him a lot of what he knows..Have you seen the list Roos had when the Swans won their first Premiership for 50 years ? Have a look at ours in comparison.. He wont achieve a premiership with that. The list will be strengthened for 2014 and Eade would be a better choice.. He still has the passion and that "fire" in his guts and in MY opinion , money appears not to be the guiding influence..Rocket gets the Gold for mine.. You back your choices and I will put my money on mine. Eade $2.50 favourite.. (refer to previous topic on the "coach Market") Arguing about who will get the job and why etc, is all based on speculation at this stage so my guess is as good as yours.. We will be able to claim how "smart" or otherwise we were when the final result is known....

Who cares what Collingwood says ... So no club has ever spoken to a prospective coach before season end when their current team has stated they would not be available for interview ?? What a load of BS !!

Get positive..I know you are attempting to make light of the situation.. I have had enough of the sarcastic, negative crap and attempts by some amateur Comedians.. Let's get serious for a change.. The culture which currently exists is rapidly changing with the help of one Peter Jackson... This will be MFC's very last chance to get out of the Shyte as far as I am concerned.. This site ,unless it becomes more positive, will only be of interest to those that live and remain in the current culture.. OK all you members who wanted Neeld, Schwab and McLardy out you have your wish, now let's move on and look to the future with a more positive outlook.. I am referring only to those who wish to continue with the negatives and not those more positive posters with a view to a better future for the Melbourne Football Club :)

He may be chased by someone after his comments on 360 last night..How could we "fall into the same trap as we did with Neeld and Craig" Neeld in particular ?? No comparison

.. Neeld was NEVER an established experienced Coach.... Eade IS...

I think it will be Roos or Eade, Williams has a bit to much baggage and we can't afford a loose cannon at this stage. Roos may or may not be interested, Eade is and he really wants it, he has unfinished business.

"A good proven Coach"......"assuming they are not already coaching".... "takeover come round 24".... who are the AVAILABLE proven coaches in that category ?? ... Forget Eade and Choco on that basis as they are in fact still coaching and will possibly be busy after round 24.... that is leaving out possibly the two most favoured.. :)

You are well informed... "Will" end up being the man...?? I would rather employ Roos's (self admitted) Mentor.. Choco will be staying where he is (well informed) and I for one hope he does at this stage... :)

i think eade will make a great football director

but definately not coach

Alright soxy just take a deep breath it's ok. As you said, your guess is as good as mine. And I wouldn't say Roos is not available given his response last night. Now bomber Thompson, there's someone who's not available if you listened to his response to the question. Roos not only left the door open, but took the hinges off in comparison!

For the record I'd be happy with any of Roos, Williams, Eade or Ratten, just stating my preferences. Roos has broke a drought for a team before, Rocket hasn't and I think Roos would develop a better rapport with our players by the manner in which he coaches (cool, calm, Lindsay Gaze style coach) to Blue tounge Rodney's occasional outbursts. Having said that Rocket would still be a great coach.

Time will tell.

Simply a statement.... Based on what ? Why wouldn't Eade make a good/great coach ?

Simply a statement.... Based on what ? Why wouldn't Eade make a good/great coach ?

said before left doggies with nothing

drafted a forward line that failed badly

it consisted of johnson, eagleton, hall, and akker, this line couldnt run out of site on a foggy night

they were creamed because of no forward chase

ask thier fans how the new coach is liking the rebuild

eade refused to take a hit on young players while the dogs were still UP

he tried the terry wallace draft ing rule and it failed

that what i based my statement on

Choco is such a polariser and a bit of nepotism was going on at Port. He does know his football though.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
