Brock McLean article - "Tackling footy's silence on gays"

I can and do. A Multi-racial society is a fine thing to aim for, but a multi cultural one is just asking for future troubles. Multiculturalism just makes it harder for the melting pot to do its job, and god knows the job is hard enough as it is. Now I'm not saying we all must eat meat pies and say Strewth all the time, and the dominant culture should take the best it can find from others and use it, but the idea that all cultural behaviour is equally valid and welcome is a very bad idea that will hurt this country in the future.

I sort of agree with what could be parts of this. But this is for another thread in general discussion.

I believe I said I encourage people's choice to wear what they want as long as they adhere to our laws.

The fact that you refer to them as "this lot" confirms to me you are nothing but an old school racist.

Why is it that some always have to fall back on slanging off at those who may hold a different view.

There are a couple here who are passionate & righteous, then just throw insults & name call instead of just putting their ideas. And they think of themselves as articulates.

you lose your point when you reside to insults & lack of respect.

Instead of helping to learn from one another it becomes a competition again.

Anybody who wishes to wear a buhrqua in australia should wear the australian flag.

Enjoy its energy and be happy to be living in relative freedom!!

Sooooo muslims are gay now? And Brock McLean is involved somehow in wearing Burqa?

I'll say it again a bit slower for you... this. is. a. footy. board.

The op was footy related, get it?

No, it wasn't. It was family related & it was written & portrayed in the sport pages of the paper.

they tried to turn it into a footy related thing.

but it was as much about rebuilding mcleans reputation after whistleblowing.

Excellent read over a cup of tea...

More sex and violence than the old testament.

Those who dont like it can go Begat themselves.

For the record the point was made in order to emphasise and categorise initiatives relating to gay equality...and contrast it with multiculturalism round. While I may very well have differing views on multiculturalism to both responders, you clearly missed the point [one which if you had remained closed minded, albeit a little less closed minded you may have interpreted in your favour!].

If I were a bigger man I would cease writing but alas I am not, and I unfortunately risk this degenerating into an 'ology like thread...this is a pity, as the usually horrible Brock's points were worth being highlighted.

B-H, "research it", you know not who you direct this to, and you clearly have not applied your advice. The opposition to multiculturalism expressed in these two posts does not reflect a well-considered opposition to the policies of multiculturalism [which is valid, regardless of your stance], but rather is a clearly poorly interpreted version of recent dog-whistles blown by Angela Merkel and David Cameron. The promotion of individualism and tolerance does not imply an ethic that views "all cultural behaviour is equally valid and welcome" - hence in Australia we do not permit whaling, or [insert dubious cultural behaviour here]. You so very badly 'get' what multiculturalism is and how it manifests itself.

These two views are poorly expressed, and thinly devised - not something which is necessarily applied to all opposition to multiculturalism. You should have more faith in our strong and successful institutions of state, welcoming ethos, and most of all the lessons of the rather short history of the Australian federation.

Sorry Nasher

Forget Cameron, Merkel, or any other world leader that now regrets what is a completely flawed concept. No policy that encourages and rewards divisiveness is a good one.

whats a buhrqua wyl?

I think there are public places and situations where it must be unacceptable to have your facial identity concealed.

Have you read his posts? Calling someone racist when they clearly display such a lack of acceptance of cultural differences isn't name calling- it's calling it like it is.

Goodness gracious me. Where would we be without things descending into petty sniping?

Public Holidays should be about eating pork and treating women to the delights of my body.

I've got weed to smoke and children to beat.

This is getting deeper than Jaques Cousteau,

The cultural debate is too much for me.

After i kick the dog and dump the rubbish in the park ,

I will return to this forum in the hope that you have all stopped offending the sensitive souls that lurk here.

spot on.

I don't particularly warm to a burqa and I'd be lying if I said otherwise, but if Muslim women are happy to be oppressed by men under a guise of modesty then it's their choice.

Pauline Hansen had the same views as you and your buddy there.

Didn't go too well for her.

Oh hello. It's the brainwashed PC brigade. Do you lot ever think about an issue for yourselves, or do you just echo what the rest of the monkeys are chattering?

Stuie, do yourself a favour ... quit stalking me and put me on ignore, too. Liberate yourself.

Hahaha I responded to the 4th reply you made to posts of mine and I'm stalking you?!

i doubt a lot of the muslim woman have a choice actually, like they would in this country.

That is the point of religion though isn't it.

Oppression.

They also wear it as a show of faith to their religion, many believe it is a form of liberation of the objectification of women in society. It's not all about being oppressed by ones husband. You will find many women do it with free will and preventing them from wearing it is the definition of oppression.

Remember that time Brock McLean was going to march in a gay pride rally.....

Yes, I understand they've "bought" that line. Lucky for them.

We all buy lines and we all adhere to what is considered socially acceptable even if we don't necessarily agree to it- just to assimilate in society we all follow a set of rules set out by others. I wish this society was liberated but that is not going to happen as people will start invading homes and chaos will reign (probably).

One of my friend's mum wears a burqa and it is definitely out of free will. Her daughter chooses not to, there is no judgment from within their own family. When they go shopping that's a different story though lol

there is from Islamic Law though, if one follows that somewhat strange template.

What sane women would like the delights of your body, FFS get a grip.

Actually it was. It was about the AFL having gay players. Now I know the AFL are a bit out of touch these days, but they are still footy related.

Agree about the timing of the article though, bit suspect...

(Sorry to get back on subject guys, back to your Jihad)

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
