Well actually I think it has defined us since that time. Hence the Neeld slash and burn burn policy to bury it. I think you and I are on much the same wavelength but the "one week at a time" cliche does worry me.

Neeld's changes were because we were rubbish all round, not because of one game. Please someone find some perspective, this is turning into some kind of a conspiracy theory.

I know that saying is a cliche, but it's how football is and should be. Learn from it, move on, get ready for the next week's challenge.

GTFO it's not ANZAC day mate.

Of course we should get over it and forget it. It was ONE GAME. DO we still celebrate the wins? No. That's how GOOD football teams do it, they move on to the next challenge rather than dwell on the past. Ever heard the saying "one week at a time"?!!

I'm wondering just how many good teams have actually had to deal with a 186 point flogging. Or a 190 one for that matter.

You don't want to let it destroy you, sure, but you can't just pretend that it didn't happen. That day exposed the club for what it was: weak, divided and soulless. Things had to change drastically because of that day. No longer could we pretend that we were on the right track because we'd beaten up a bunch of teams that were dealing with their own issues. That day we knew that the bruise free comments were not just true but probably understated, and we had a bunch of players that played the game only on their terms, and who folded as soon as pressure was applied.

Forget it? Not a hope. Only a flag will erase that stain.

What a load of BS.

We were soulless before 186 and we're still searching.

Get over the drama girls.

On a different note, could it be possible to set up a Demonland poster Hall of Shame? Some of the rocket surgeon comments on here after our trading period have reinforced the need for this!

Dividing rocket scientists from brain surgeons perhaps? And would that be indict? Edited by monoccular

Yes, because I so totally meant not to collocate (that's a linguistic term, look it up) rocket with surgeon. You see, brain surgery is regarded as an occupation where one needs some smarts and rocket science.... Oh, never mind.

Secondly, induct is the correct use of English in this case. People are inducted into halls of fame/shame, clubs and institutions of many a stripe.

In the bigger picture, yes it was. From a MFC point of view, it was the stock market crash of 2009. Months and years of bad club culture, division, laziness and timidity when things weren't going the players way became apparent on that very day. I thankfully never saw the game. I don't have Fox Footy so was kinda torn on going down to the pub to watch it there. I thank the big pixie in the sky that I never did. Some might say how could I have an opinion on it if I never saw it? Well, I didn't see the 1975 Consitutional Crisis first hand but I know plenty about that!

In the matter of life and death, it doesn't mean much to the average punter on the street. To the MFC though, it should be an indictment on how the club had been operating.

186 was not an isolated event/effort, it had been brewing for months and most of us were expecting a belting. the sheer size and humiliation of the loss finally broke the spell of BS we were being sold that this crappy phase was a "anticipated and necessary part of the great re-build"...

It took this almighty walloping for the club to start to shake off the tupour of the past ten years of mediocracy.

And we're not out of the woods yet.

stu, whether or not people are over it, it was a tipping point that led to a coach losing his job and essentially a new era of the club beginning. It was a major event, hence the emphasis placed upon it.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
