What did Buckley say on the news?

Sorry WYL, but I only caught it on the way through - I got the jist, but not the full story - wait for another news service.

I am o/s so if you hear the quotes, pass them on.

No, Collingwood offered him what you want to offer him (your "MFC terms") - he might end up taking that at Colingwood but you'll HAVE to offer him more to move - therefore you've effectively said you don't want him

No old55, he may have asked for too much at Collingwood, especially if they are now being squeezed in the salary cap, and hence we need to be careful in what we may offer him, if we do. IMO, he's starting to look like someone who's been caught out wanting too much.

The market will determine what Travis is worth. Not him. But for him to move our offer must be attractive. Those long goals in last years GF helped his price.

David Cloke is quoted on the back of the HUN today as saying they agree with Collingwood on the money being offered, just not the extra year they want.

We (and others) are going to have to offer Travis that year if we stand any chance of landing him.

You won't get anywhere not taking risks in an 18-team cut-throat competition.

Sure. Every time the team takes the field it is a risk. Cloke inc. know time in footy is limited. If the Filth want him they will agree. Once he has gone it would leave a big hole. The MFC know to well what a poor forwardline achieves.

I hope the MFC is still deeply involved in the dealings.

A sticking point of an extra year on a well larded contract offer suggests he's gone. Not to us I hope.

So who should we target as a second tall forward. Ready to fire in 2013?

I don't believe he is worth 5 years.

The guy is a seriously good player but five years is a very long time.

I don't blame the Pies for saying No!

I still find it hard to believe he will

- leave the Pies

- end up at the MFC.

I don't think he is the type of player that will uplift a struggling club at his price. With a strong midfileld and half back line good forwards tend to magically pop up everywhere.

Pretty sure Collingwoods terms would have been around $800K/year whereas ours will be closer to $1M/year.

I agree with the caveat of his worth playing in a struggling team. With all the angst that he done to them it looks like Scully all over again.

I'm pretty certain more than a few were saying the same thing about Clark when we threw all of that money at him.

We had that problem in 2010. It is too risky. Mitch Clark needs help. He cannot do it all. If it aint Cloke who should we target?

All good sides have a structured forward line.

To think they will magically appear is poor judgement in my eyes.

He's only 25 though and you have to offer a bit more to try and pry him away from the Pies.

I actually was pleased he came.

Really? Because in my time watching the Demons I can count the number of good forwards we have had on one hand (Lyon, Jakovich, Schwarz, Neitz, Clark).

Maybe Collingwood has taken the 'C'est la Vie' (or as Ben Cousins would say 'Such is Life!) view and figure if Cloke goes the bigger his new paypack the better their compo pick will be! Can't lose!

Meanwhile, Cloke is looking like he is burning bridges...can he and his Dad eat the required humble pie to stay? Ooops just re-read the last line...no pun intended! ^_^

Yep. How often have we ended a season with a healthy % we have struggled to kick big scores for decades.

So was I... but I think you get my point.

All depends on team structure. The Swans are doing well without a marque forward. Adelaide have two fickle forwards. The hawks seem do do well wilth fill in's for Buddy. Pies have Cloke with their version of Seller. North have plucked a few out of no where. To many different solutions.

Five years still concerns me Dr.

Some times players drop of quickly as they approach 30

EG Davey and Moloney

I'm still of the view that Cloke has asked for too much and is now caught between eating humble pie and going elsewhere for less (as in money or time) - maybe MFC just has to call his bluff, so to speak - he and Collingwood may be happy to part, but we should still be careful.

Absolutely. I don't want to get burnt. But i would hate to see another club prosper with Cloke in it.

He is the type of player we are crying out for.

If it isn't him, who should we target?

I wish I knew mate - looking back at our draft selections in 2001 makes me think we should just throw names in a hat!

Seriously, I have a gut feel that we will get Cloke (not necessarily under the conditions I would prefer) - I just hope he proves to be worth whatever we end up paying, in time or money.

More importantly, we need the midfield and the coaching to make it all worthwhile - here's hoping!

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
