Id also like to know, its a pretty important KPI. If you cant hit a target you might as well not play.

The reason why though?

It's a decptive stat. Like all stats.

It doesn't tell you whether the kick did what it was intended or give any context about whether a handball hit its target but whether it was a good handball (Cam Bruce's hospital handpasses come to mind).

There is value in stats, but not in isolation.

You have my vote BBP,

Ten kicks from Davey is worth more than 30 from Bail and 5 of his mates

Great. Except he has had only 51 kicks from 8 games this year. Do you think he can wave a magic wand and revert back to his B&F year form?

Fail.

The reason why though?

Why ta?

Because you are so empathetic (and I'm the sharing type) :)

If why DE%, then as rpfc says. They don't take into account any context or degree of difficulty. I've often seen someone with a poor disposal game get a high DE% and vice-versa

in short i've come to not take any serious notice of them

Oh come on!!! It gives a fair indication, maybe not to the exact accuracy but its pretty consistent when letting us know who are the better users of the ball and the standard our club should be drafting, no more terrible disposers please....and ALL AFL clubs take this into perspective when drafting, you know that rpfc.

We all know Watts is probably the best disposer in the side and thats the standard of player that this club should be aiming very high to recruit, that is my point.

Watts 75.6%

Pendlebury 77.6%

Hodge 76.9%

Ablett 74.1%

Judd 72.5%

Griffen 72.3%

Rioli 72.2%

All of these players are known for their quality disposal and I'd take them anyday. For the love of stats don't try to tell me DE% doesnt mean anything!!!

When did I say that?

I have a KPI thread myself FFS, with the offending stat (at a team level)...

So bloody excitable.

All I am saying is that stats in isolation are not good enough to convince me of anything.

DE% being included in that.

Here is some food for thought,

In: Gysberts

Out: Trengove

Maybe just for a rest and a week off? Hopefully comes back refreshed and finds form.

Before anyone slams me and says its ridiculous to drop a captain its more of an idea to try and get trengove back and playing to his full potential

Not to mention they are often wrong.

Sellar was listed as 100% DE against GWS from 16 disposals, I checked the tape, he had a direct clanger when he kicked it to Dean Brogan.

This is the first and only time I've checked if this stat was 100% accurate, my conclusion is that they (whoever they are) can write any old percentage down and no one will know any different.

Your eyes are the best stats, unless you're an idiot.

Of course its not always accurate but it gives a fair indication over time. Even if its 5-10% out over time the best users of the ball would always consistently be in the upper echolon.

So your saying that all AFL clubs should use their eyes & not stats? Seriously!! AFL clubs are built around KPI's & stats!

Yes, plenty of them.

Not just DE.

Fail.

Ok 6.375 are better than 30 from bail as they actually go to someone.

Just hearing about the Pavs good play, we need tom Mac to come in for him.

De-luded you were spot on.

I was wrong I though he was still a couple of weeks away.

Back after that injury in two weeks amazing!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
