Trengove - continued to underperform

Grimes - stand alone captain

Jones - inspiring and courageous

Watts - good but embarrassed

Frawley - just a shadow

Morton - officially an irrelevance

Clark - great all day

Sylvia - continued wretched season

Mckenzie - gotta love him

Dunn - found his niche

Blease - was invariably unbalanced

Green - sadly an embarrassment

Garland - not the answer

Moloney - not a tagger

McDonald - a solid game

Rivers - not a forward

Seller - can't fault endeavour

Tapscott - brave and aggressive

Howe - needed greater involvement

Jamar - had little influence

Nicholson - courageous and improving

Magner - just a game

On the money assessment bar one "Frawley - just a shadow"... Drop the just and yes he was indeed Clokes Shadow. Considering the quality ball coming in from the likes of Side Bottom, Beams and Swans restricting the big man to a couple of goals and one contested mark isn't a bad day at the office.

Frawley was great

Watts is a future umpire. He can run as fast "backwards" as forward (if you get my drift)

Trengove - obviously carrying injuries

Grimes - had a crack

Jones - showing the way

Watts - learning the craft

Frawley - good shutdown role

Morton - some ok things

Clark - serious man crush

Sylvia - at cross roads

Mckenzie - does his job

Dunn - needs more gametime

Blease - shows some brilliance

Green - feel for him

Garland - needed down back

Moloney - release the beast!!!

McDonald - continues decent season

Rivers - forgot to change ends

Seller - has a crack

Tapscott - loved every minute

Howe - needed more help

Jamar - hit out king

Nicholson - showing some signs

Magner - needs a rest

Only problem with Russians game was he had less hitouts ,less possession and 2 less goals than Jolly.

Trengove - not firing on all cylinders for some reason

Grimes - Stood up

Jones - a bit more polished than ive given credit

Watts - good/a litte bad...cant do it all himself after all

Frawley - tried valiantly...tough gig

Morton - mort on the ground

Clark - thank god, more of this type pls

Sylvia - totally over this goose

Mckenzie - tried hard

Dunn - at least knows where teh tall timber is to kick between ( msg to Green )

Blease - better for the run, coming along

Green - a Black day

Garland - couldnt repeat effort

Moloney - he was there ?

McDonald - a bit of a find

Rivers - put in, whereever asked.

Seller - might be starting to show

Tapscott - gotta love his sense of vigour :)

Howe - Howe good is he

Jamar - A big unit had littel effect, it seemed.

Nicholson - some moments...some good...some ,well...less said the better

Magner - needs help , is getting burnt out

Trengove - obviously carrying injuries

Jamar - hit out king

Should be

Jamar - Hit out "TO OPPOSITION" king

Trengove - Pray its injury

If Green kicks straight he finshes with 3 goals and we're in for a real sniff come 3 qtr time. Shame he didn't take his chances as those were goals he'd ice a couple years back but I thought he did a nice job. Took a couple of marks running back with the flight and presented an option for 3 qs. not our worst.

joeboy - again criticises Howe

Whats with the "up and under" passing some do? Green major offender. Are they practising their hang time for a post afl career? It crucifies your team mates !!!

Green's in-play field kicking has been a deficiency since day dot. That jinking wind-up before getting ball to boot. It's only exacerbated now that he's gotten old and he's added 'up and under' to the repertoire.

Great servant Greeny but he is well cooked.

Watts was good and really if he was embarrassed because of pressure at kick outs up field, pie scum are particularly good fir locking down but we certainly got better at it as game wore on. The ole racing form cliche could be used here- was better for the run

I assume you mean Garland not the answer up forward and not about having his spot in the side? I dare say you meant the latter JB

greeny took some great marks, it would have been great to top them off with a goal.

Blease is still working out when he can have a trot and when he needs to give it off.

not sure what happened when he fumbled the bounce, could have been a good inside 50 bomb rather than the mess that came out of it.

Frawls did a great shut down role.

and yeh clark, couldn't be more impressed.

hoping matthews and the like are feeling a little embarressed about their comments "clark is not a quality forward'

bulk man crush!

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
