Where do we find our speed?

Listening to Ross Lyon on SEN he reminded listeners that the press/flood has sped the game up. You cann't fiddle around but must find a way of moving forward quickly to break the lines. A few suggestions.

1. Team handball.

2. Leg speed

3. Long accurate kicking.

4. Smart minds

In the three games I've witnessed this year I cannot recall much speed. Where can we find it?

How would you prioritize the list above and how would you implement your plan to increase our speed

In the 2012 draft.

That's of course if we get a recruiter that understands what to look for in a young player.

What is wrong with some more 190 cm tall skinny kids who will come into there own in 2016 RobbieF?

Only joking but they are not among the current group.

We will have to find some over the next couple of years and endure the crap in the interim.

When we gave Sydney a drubbing in 2010 we seemed to have speed in almost all aspects. What has happened since this game?

Seem to be chasing you around this morning GTG or are there only 2 of us on at present?

Very good question, wish i could provide the answer.

Perhaps they are so desperate not to make a mistake they have completely lost all confidence and flair.

Paralysied by fear perhaps?

No, there are three.

Harrisonrules mentions those four requirements

1. Team handball.

2. Leg speed

3. Long accurate kicking.

4. Smart minds

Yes, that is exactly what we require; you should be director of coaching - if all that came together we would be a top 6 or 4 team.

Unfortunately we seem to have none of those assets, or at best the odd flash in the pan.

That is Neeld's challenge...ably supported by Missen. Some are concerned that on preseason with Missen hasn't made the team Olympic athletes...it is going to take time.

Players who have leg speed need to use it when they don't have the ball, not just when they have. When (if) Blease, Jurrah and Bennell can rectify their deficiencies in this regard, we'll look a lot better. And Moloney, too.

In fact, the only players I can think of who consistently chase as hard as they run when they have the ball are Bartram, Nicholson and Frawley. Perhaps there are others and I'm being harsh. (To my mind, Davey does it, but not consistently).

That's why we have had terrible turnovers in the first few games. We are trying to move the ball quickly. INstead of being composed, assessing the options quickly and pulling the trigger.

Frawley I reckon has become like a frightened rabbit when kicking in because he is thinking too much. It's a delicate balance and one that is incredibly difficult when devoid of confidence as we are.

The good teams are composed and don't second guess themselves. We are clearly not there yet. I am sick of waiting....

Haha that does seem to be the case, OD.

I've looked up the stats from the game, and the players who have either moved on have not played this season due to injuries are:

Cameron Bruce

Paul Johnson

Liam Jurrah

Addam Maric

Tom "Scum of the Earth" $cully

Colin Sylvia

Austin Wonaeamirri

The only players from that list that would currently be in my best 22 are Sylvia, Jurrah and Scully. Sylvia was BOG with 28 disposals, but Jurrah and Scully were both ordinary with 9 and 14 disposals apiece. Davey had 25 disposals and received 2 votes for his performance, but has since fallen off the face of the earth. Our current 'fringe' players also played quite well (Morton, Bartram, MacDonald, Bail, McKenzie, Dunn).

So, perhaps the change is a result of our 'fringe' players regressing rather than progressing?

Everybody on our list seemed to be switched on that day. I would love to know what happened before the game to get them to do this so that MN can implement it from here on out.

I think he has about 15 mates jnrmac.

They all look like they are scared stiff.

At present the worse thing is not being dropped to Casey it is being left in the seniors

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
