3rd round pick is generous, also has daddy issues, spoke to his old coach who tried to teach him to play in a team structure but wouldn't listen to anyone but todd who said the coach knew nothing and to just get the ball and get as many possessions as possible to make him look good, always kick to a sideways or backwards target to up his eff rate to make himself look good. bad attitude.

It would be good though, if we could engineer a decent consistent rumour that would create a bit of doubt in the minds of other teams, making it too risky to bid high.

You would never seriously recruit a player that refused to speak with you - you might posture - but when push came to shove you would never do it.

You underestimate the power of the player. We all new where he wanted to go - it was just a matter if you could leverage the situation - which no club was able to do - North came closest by attempting to broker a deal.

How much you were paying in your salary cap is irrelevant. You are never going to pay a player that does not talk to you or want to be part of your club.

If Ball was forced out of the Aints he should have taken his chances like all other registered AFL players.

Sure Luke made a good choice. I have no problem with that. But the choice should not have been made available. The AFL assisted it.

I see your point Sloonie, but (as per my comment above) I'm with billy on this. It's just too high risk and high stakes for the teams above us to nominate him, unless he really is rated the standout.

Another thing that will have them doubting themselves is is the fact that they know he probably wants to play for the Dees, and with his old man. Would you risk losing your preferred number one pick, and having to pick up a top 3 - 5 pick who may or may not want to return to be with his Dad in Melbourne after the first two years, just to stuff around another team that's wallowing around the bottom of the ladder with you??

There is no guarantee that JV would be rated by others or ourselves

Why not wait and see who is available

I honestly cant believe people can't see what's going on. The two teams with compo picks tied to there finish on the ladder are serving up absolute garbage and nobody In the media has even mentioned tanking ....

He's great, and he's right for MFC.

And he's already signed.

Recruiting is an art form more than a science and the skill of a recruiiter is identify the talent for AFL. A recruiter is always going to have some hit and misses hopefully more hits than misses.

And if you do a proper analysis of all drafts you will find that the high picks provide you with a greater probability of accessing the best players. And to improve those odds you need a good recruitment team.

BTW, in your use of 2001, the F/S laws and changed. Ablett jnr and Waite were obtained with 3rd round picks. The law changed. Both were first round pick potential. Ablett pushing up into the top bracket.

With the risk of you suspending me again- be fair and accurate in your debate,Whilst you are accurate in pointing out Waite & Ablett were 3rd rd picks, they were father & son picks when you had to give up a rd 3 pick for them.
