Now THAT is my kind of music! He reminds me a little of the Melbourne based singer, Archer.

This following song however, is in a style far removed from Jones’s bones’s. I love the fragility of the vocals and the sound in general; a great band in my opinion.

Thanks for that Ray.  It's a most entertaining retelling of the story.

Gram (real name Ingram) made some wonderful music as a band member and also as a solo artist.  "Grievous Angel" is one of my all-time favourite albums.

Another version of the story is that Kaufman was charged with "Gram Theft Parsons".

Have you seen the movie (Grand Theft Parsons) 'Demonstone'? I see there is  a full version up on Youtube. Must watch it again....

So, are we in need a bit of chillout jazz/rock? (or however else you might describe Steely Dan's Gaucho)

Terrific album, all the same (all 7 songs from the album will play)

How is it all going back on the vinyl, rjay

It's something I'll no doubt do down the track (someday)

I've heard new vinyl is a tad expensive but that earthy sound quality would make it worthwhile, yeah?

And do all the modern artists offer a vinyl alternative?

I love it 'Macca', but I'm listening to my old vinyl & haven't bought any new stuff.

There are some pretty expensive new & reissued vinyl releases out there.

Not sure it's as good as the old but it's fun to put a record on & listen to a side then turn it over & listen to the other...

Once more to the self promotion parapets my friends!!

I thought I’d chuck in a link to a video containing a sampling of a few tunes played by my band, Los Romeos Oxidados (plus a couple of ring-ins on guitars) at our gig just this Saturday (07/09/2024), at The Gasoline Pony in the Sydney suburb of Marrickville.

I hope you enjoy it.

The Hard Ons are a fantastic live band. Blacky the guitarist and Raymond Ann the bassist have another band Nunchucka Superfly that play around Sydney, and Blacky does the occasional solo show. I run into him every now and then as we both live in the same suburb; in fact I’m hoping he might accept my invitation to sit in with my band for a few tunes, tomorrow (I have what my band mates probably think is a bad habit, of inviting guests to sit in with the band).

He informed me that they’re playing in Melbourne, so unfortunately, it’s negatory!

Have caught Nunchuka Superfly in Geelong and Melbourne a few times as well. Prefer the Hard-Ons though.

Had to say goodbye to my old cat last month, played this song too often in the last month. It's the final song in a trilogy of of songs (first two released by The Weakerthans) about the relationship between a pet owner in the throes of depression/life and Virtute the Cat. The first two songs are written from the perspective of the cat but this one the cat is basically resurrected in the mind of its recovering owner. Some very good songwriting about a fictional cat.

Unfortunately I’m going to be jumping back on board the ‘Chemo Bus’ in January due to my test results showing that my health has been heading south over the last three months.  As a result of that news, I stacked our final two gigs with as many guests I could find who were willing to join in with our band.

No doubt you won’t be familiar with some or all of them, but on the Saturday we had among others, Richard Burgman (Saints and Sunnyboys), Marcus Phelan (Brave New Works, The Numbers and Western Distributors), and Jonny Gretsch (Wasted Ones).  It was a fantastic afternoon, the joint was packed, and I couldn’t have asked for any more… at least so I thought.

On Sunday we played a friend's xmas lane party he holds every year for the residents in the street (we were neighbours until I moved). As usual I had applied my scatter gun approach to inviting musicians to join in, working on the theory that maybe half would front up… how wrong was I.  Most did front which left me with the dilemma of trying to fit them all in somehow.

There were Mick Daley (The Remains and Corporate Raiders), Terry Serio (The Elks and acting in various TV productions), Murray Cook (The Wiggles), Richard Burgman again (Saints and Sunnyboys), Dom Turner (Backsliders and The Rural Blues Project) and Bob Spencer (The Angels and Skyhooks).  The accompanying vids were taken by a friend and I ran them through iMovie. The sound is not a great representation of what it was like actually being there, but it does at least give you a taste. These are the first time that Bob and Dom have played together, and they’re accompanied on bass by our guy Frank Grubisa (a brilliant luthier by the way), and on drums by our guy Joe Breen and his occasional sub in our band, Luke Robinson.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, I’m selling t-shirts I’ve designed for my band; all the info can be found here:

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
