I'd forgotten about this site for far too long.

About 20 years ago a went through a phase of writing song lyrics, but not having a musical bone in my body, nothing ever happened with them. I thought a lot of them were good but couldn't do anything with them. Then a few weeks ago a friend told me about an AI app where you are able to insert your lyrics, add a few instructions on style etc, and in no time it spits out a completed song for you. If you don't like it, you change the inputs until you do. So I sent him one of my lyrics and he sent me back the completed song. Magic!

I'll attach it if you are interested in listening. I'll add another small one in if it can fit. The first song is called Oil; and the second Just as the Sun.

My son has his own band and i mentioned it to him. His response, as a musician, was that he sees it as cheating. But he said for the musically challenged (think me) it's a godsend. Anyway, I ended up getting the app and have spent many hours "creating" songs from my lyrics. I found a few of the lyrics didn't make it to the "best of" collection, but i did end up with about a dozen that I'm really happy with. What was interesting to me (again as a non-musician) was how the format of the lyrics fit different styles of music. So i have some where the same song is in two different formats - ie Blues format and Funk format. Thats probably not surprising to most of you but it was to me.

Happy to upload more if anyone is interested.

First yes, please post more Froggy.

The AI side of things is a fascinating debate and it’s still early to say whether it’s a force for good or evil.

As a once aspiring musician who gave up the dream years ago in order to get a real job I do think in a similar way to your son but I do think these tools are going to be of benefit to a large number of people. There is an argument that it sparks a different type of creativity and isn’t different to say studying other musician’s melodies or sound design for inspiration.

I’ve been playing around with Suno (assuming this is the one you’re using) and it is pretty incredible how quickly you can produce an arrangement with layers just from a simple prompt. It kind of makes me think that Spotify now have good reason to continue to pay artist’s terribly. Who knows where this will go?

L, interesting thoughts. Yes Suno is my AI friend. For me it is just an interest - to finally be able to put some music to my lyrics. The bigger issues I hadn't even thought about to be honest, I'm just having some fun. But I'm sure it's a contentious issue with musicians.

Nothing wrong with that and as you said it's allowed you to explore arrangements with your lyrics that you may not have thought about. Make no mistake these things can be incredible tools even for the most seasoned musicians.

I'll give these a listen later on, haven't got speakers on my work PC 🙂

Nice… I’ve just installed the app and have tried a couple of things, the results of which are interesting (my lyrics tend not to follow simple rhyming patterns). I’d upload them here, but I think I’ve used up all of my space allowance in my cancer thread 🤣

Did you subscribe, and if so, to which plan (Pro or Premier)… if Premier, I’m wondering what the Suno Studio is like… looking at the comparison, it seems that it is only available to Premier and only on the web, not app.

Yep, subscribed to the pro plan. Sorry but I’ve no idea what the Premier version is like. Too complicated for me.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
