For anyone subscribed to Netflix, I can heartily recommend the following series:

Nobody’s Looking - a Brazilian comedy about guardian angels

The Neighbour - a Spanish comedy about a super hero

The Newsreader was great. Outstanding writing, acting and production values. Set in the 80s so of particular interest to oldies. I think it's still on iview.

I thought Total Control would be as good as The Newsreader. It's OK but nowhere near as good. Same with Fires.

The 4th and final season of Goliath was brilliant ... of course, I am a big fan of Billy Bob Thornton but the whole cast really nailed series 4

Set in dark, damp Chinatown (San Fransisco) series 4 is for 'Noir' fans. Be prepared to be surprised ... the best show I've seen this year!

And the first season of 'Only Murders in the Building' was very funny and very entertaining

Marty Short & Steve Martin were just mesmerisingly good ... and there's more to come.  The sort of show you can watch on repeat

I liked it all but season 4 was terrific.  The show was also about so much more than the courtroom drama's that eventuated

But that's just my view ... each to their own

I thought season 1 was great with all the dynamics (ex partner ex wife etc) but after that...

Have you seen Bosch? Great plot but the back story is like watching CFC highlights

No but Bosch is on the list ... to be honest, I've been flat-out at work during lockdown working enormous hours for the last 2 years

Quietened off already so time to catch up on movies & TV drama

There's probably 10 good shows that I don't know of ... a bit out of touch!  Bosch soon enough though ... at least the first 3 eps

If you are a Billy Bob fan, and why not, I assume you have seen Fargo? and any othe r recommendations?

Naturally you have seen mathew Mc in True Detective?

Yeah seen 'em all ... Sling Blade was a tremendous film (BBob)

I can remember debating the worth of True Detective S2 with AF here.  I really liked it and thought with time, it might be appreciated better.   But there again I'm a Colin Farrell fan as well (how good was 'In Bruges'!)

Still haven't seen True Detective series 3 ... any good?

Better Call Saul is very good. Others such as Ozark & Homeland are good

And we're going to see another series of Dexter ... that'll be interesting

True Detective - got half way the 2nd series.....

Better Call Saul - I was into Breaking Bad but got nearly to the end;  I asked a friend how did it end and they said What do you think?, so I stopped.

Ozark - yes. (There is a line in there where the wife says she would like to start a new life in the middle of nowhere, Mullumbimby, which is inland from Byron Bay. Obviously the writer has been out that way)

Any comedy or sci fi?

Curb your Enthusiasm new series has started out ... as previously mentioned Only Murders in the Building

'Barry' is good, The Kominsky Method is decent

As for Sci-fi ... got a bit to catch up on as there is a bit about

'Dark' is supposed to be good,  Glitch season 3 to watch.  Have they made any more of 'Black Mirror'?

  • 2 weeks later...

Dexter* is back and the first episode was very good ... I'd give it an 8.5/10

A few surprises and a totally different location but a fair bit to work with re the new (and old) characters

Yellowstone is terrific ... watched the first 2 episodes and I'm already hooked

*The official Showtime podcast is available through Podbay ... Michael C Hall features on the first podcast of the new series

The Dexter New Blood series has finished

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable revisit but with a few unanswered plot-holes

But satisfying nonetheless especially when considering how the original series finished off

So no spoilers right now as many might not have watched as yet

Quite liked Barry,  though the 2nd season has some stupid plot lines.

I am also watching You on the Flix though it is getting a tad repetitive.  Worth a good look.

The Expanse, Amazon Prime. Best SF going around at the minute.

After Life Season 3 on Netflix- excellent.  Reservation Dogs on Foxtel - fantastic.  100 Foot Wave on Foxtel - terrific.  Mandalorian on the Disney Channel - fantastic.  Hellbound (Korean) on Netflix - fantastic.

Recently viewed 4 mini series

Safe (8.0)

The Five (7.5)

The Stranger (7.5)

Behind her Eyes (7.5)

All British productions and all are in the Mystery/Thriller genre

2 Mini-series that are above average good for their genre.  Both best described as  meandering horror with some real mystery thrown in

'The Outsider' (Stephen King) & 'Midnight Mass' (Mike Flanagan)

  • 2 months later...

New Season of 'Better Call Saul' released

2 episodes available with episode 3 out shortly

  • 3 weeks later...

I have been watching the Flight Attendant....there are flash backs forwards ups and downs, lots of drinking, noise, shouting etc....I think it would be just as enjoyable if you played the episodes out of order (see also Killing Eve)

The last 6 episodes of Better Call Saul kicked off last night ... a brilliant episode to begin the countdown to the finale

I'm not the best TV watcher at the best of times but I've been giving the documentary version of The Staircase a go and I'm right into it. Anyone seen it?

The documentary is fantastic. Inside the legal team bunker during the running of the hearing is rarely seen. Very interesting viewing and a few twists along the way. Loved it.

No, but I might take a look, layz

Just watched the 1st episode of 'The Old Man' starring Jeff Bridges & John Lithgow and I'm hooked already ... Action/Mystery/Thriller

The 2nd series of 'Only Murders in the Building' is out ... it's a lot of fun esp if one likes Steve Martin & Marty Short

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
