We might sneak in, but we're not seriously vying for a spot; particularly not in the game versus Hawthorn, anyway.

What I loathe is the idea that Melbourne supporters are somehow different to fans of other clubs.

Melbourne supporters are no different to any other group; there are a hardcore bunch who go all the time, those who attend a fair bit, and others who go little (if at all). You're kidding yourself if you think other Clubs are different.

As for telling people who don't go to games/buy memberships, turning off the people who 'go for' Melbourne but don't have footy as a big part of their lives is beyond foolish.

(Hot tip; Hawthorn membership figures/crowd figures weren't so hot when they were struggling).

Good point and well said. However, what came first at Hawthorn the winning or the crowd.

How did they get the winning back on the agenda & transfer that to the score sheet?

Did they sack Clarkson? Did they get rid of their early draft picks? Did they invest millions of dollars inside their football department?

As i thought, good crowd for a sunday....it aint cheap to take a family to the Footy anymore, and the AFL has the audacity to keep saying it is a non profit organization!!!

Yep, many of the regulars who sit around us were a no show today. Pretty pathetic.

Melbourne supporters need the same dose of harden the f' up as our players.

The players aren't going to look up to where I sit and say "Bugger!! he's not here again, I think we'll play rubbish today, that'll make him feel bad"

I as well as many others have family commitments as well as other interests, No, not snow play up at Bulla in my case.

Sunday is a crap day for footy for me, hey, they still get my money!!!!

Heaven help this footy club if our supporters think along these lines and cancel their memberships next year to stay home and watch games from their couch.

Every supporter will come up with 100 valid excuses as to why they can't/won't go, but none of them will stand up and say "I am part of the reason why Melbourne don't get blockbuster games, why Melbourne gets home games at Etihad and has to drive to Geelong every single year, and sell home games to Darwin".

We complain and whinge, but it's our doing.

Sadly, those of us who go every week, without fail and without excuses, are the ones that have to suffer, along with the team.

I'm not having a dig at your specifically and good on you for going today, but seriously I just really loath Melbourne supporters sometimes. Half the idiots who whinge about this club are the same ones who don't turn up to games and don't contribute financially, and as far as I'm concerned they can [censored] off.

Look Jaded Melb supporters are not that different from other clubs supporters. When the Bombers were losing they didn"t get their full compliment of people rocking up to games!! Same as with any team, play rubbish and lose a lot, people won't go to games, its natural. But I'm sure you knew that!

We really don't need more misery in our lives and watch another slop fest!

I don't care if 1 or 100,000 rock up. I'll be there to support the club AND because I enjoy going.I can't understand how people will go to a game only if the result is set in stone before the game. If you just want to see a team win buy a Manchester United membership.

What I find funny is 'supporters' giving their opinion of a player or of the game when they haven't even gone to watch them play. Whole different game watching live compared to watching it on the tv

I enjoy going when i know the side will have a real 4 quarter effort. Unfortunately that only happens against bottom 6 sides. No interest in watching Hawthorn pump us for the 8th time in a row. The result was exactly what I expected although I feel that pass from Sylvia and the Tapscott/Martin umpiring brain fade were important in the size of the hawks win.

Do whatever the hell you want (and how pathetic that those who take offense to what I'm saying claim that those of us who go to games have no lives ), but don't dare whinge that we have to sell home games, play at Etihad and scrounge money to cover our debts.

Winning Big Games will sort all that out. Until it does the club will tread water.

Honestly, I'm pretty bleh about having missed this one. I've been to the most games I've ever been to in a season this year, I'm going to at least 2, possibly 3 more and so missing one just because I know we're going to get flogged doesn't really annoy me.

Yeah ... no doubt we where out-numbered, heaps more yellow and every time the umps got it wrong according to them the noise level was 3-4 times higher.

Even at the start of the game when the teams ran out they got more of a cheer then us.

It's pretty simple, when we start winning more games and become regularly competitive with top 8 sides, we'll get bigger crowds, better timeslots and a hell of a lot more noise from the crowd.

Every club is the same, win more games, get more members and bigger crowds.

I've been to almost all of our home games over the past 5 years, but when we start to get flogged I'll often go stand in the bar and socialise rather than sit out in the cold and have a sh!t time. Likewise when we play at Etihad I'll watch on fox sports in the comfort of my home with friends rather than fork out more cash to watch a poor performance and sit amongst annoying opposition supporters.

I think that's a fair attitude, I support the club by buying memberships, merchandise and attend plenty of games. But if anyone expects me to travel down to SS to watch us get torn apart in front of 30,000 geelong supporters, they are kidding themselves!

Yet they come here on a weekly basis and have a go at our boys for being soft, 2-3 years away, we must be realistic, player x & y cant do this or that, player x & y should go ... give me a break.

I have more of a problem with people saying they "support" the Dees but they don't buy a membership or turn up. Those that buy a memebrship and chose for whatever reason not to turn up is a part of modern life.

You people don't have kids, clearly. With so many SUnday games and kids football on Sunday afternoon it is a disaster for the club comercially.

If only half the membership and a quarter of all the casual supporters turned up every week we would easily get 60,000 plus on our side of the fence every game. That won't happen without long term meaningful success. Anyone who feels obligated to turn up for every game of the season and shames everyone else who doesn't may have some serious quality of life issues.
