fair enough - I have always thought it would be very difficult to get anywhere else than GWS but it is possible

With all due respect, and again I'm not trying to insult you, many around here have continually under estimated the abilities of Velocity sports.

I doubt you would give a flying about an arguable distraction if you had a life changing decision to make - especially one that you already said a year in advance that you were not going to discuss it until the end of the season.

And I very much doubt that the spotlight that has come with the 'stringing along' would hasten your decision...

If I really wanted to remove any destractions from my footy and I thought that I was nearly certainly going to stay I think I'd bring the negotiations forward. Especially when I know the club wants to get a deal done and have accordingly put their best offer forward, and especially when I hate seeing my teammates being put into a position of having to defend my honour weekly.

But if I knew I was going I'd either stick to my guns and wait til the end of the season, or go to the club now, even if it meant I'd played my last game for the club, and let them know my intentions. I hope I'd choose the latter.

In reality, I tend to agree with those that think the recent GWS offer was a smoke screen. A red herring designed to save face for Tom when in fact he'd already agreed late last year. It actually makes sense. Nathan Fyfe has never been linked to GWS even though he's out performed Scully. A RS winner in Dan Rich re-signs with a bottom club. If you were GWS would you offer Scully $1 million ahead of Fyfe ? Would you offer that money now when he's missed half the season with a problem knee ? Or could it be that you're offering $1 million now because in reality you locked yourself into that offer late last year when he was your main target ? Even though all and sundry in the Scully camp had said we haven't even spoken to GWS, which never made sense.

For too long I gave Scully the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to take him on face value. I chose to believe him. I wanted to believe him.

Poor fool me. Now I'll just use my intuition, which I should have relied upon all along. He's going.

Why would Velocity accept the first bid offered to them? .... makes no sense ...

Why would Tom hold a press conference and say what he said? .... makes no sense ...

I think you are merely stating what you would do. But you are not alone around here.

Offer of a lifetime with take it or leave it now or you miss out overtones.

On (poor) advisement from Velocity to keep the wolves at bay.

The leaks would have come from ... let me guess? I dont think we have any rats. If we do they are short sighted rats.

PS Its not always ALL about the Money ... plus its only ever going to be a short term premium. Long term well thats another issue ...

You guys love ultimatums...

If they did have preliminary discussions I very much doubt that they were so blunt and blase about getting a talent like Tom Scully...

I heard he wanted to do it himself...

And it's only poor advisement if he is lying.

But that is the judgement call at the heart of this isn't it...

Intuition is a concept incomprehensible for those who have blind faith and only believe what they want to believe. I would have liked Tom to come clean early on that he would play elsewhere next season. Just like they do in rugby and world soccer and every other major football code. It would have been the honourable thing to take his bitter medicine early and make a quick recovery. But continuing this charade will leave a permanent scar on his reputation I believe.

According to some.

You continually underestimate Velocity, they know the game. If he has signed they would have shut their mouths .... so would GWS. B)

Velocity I've got a pretty good handle on. It's the maestros at GWS who appear to have been underestimated.

I can't comment on the second part of that sentence, but my thoughts are well known.

The leaks would have come from ... let me guess? I dont think we have any rats. If we do they are short sighted rats.

This is the 5 million dollar question. Several actors have a vested interest in leaking the info, but it is unlikely we'll ever know who for sure.

Not always, but in this case ... hard to draw any other conclusion.

Rubbish ... just because you and others lack patience does not mean Tom has to make a decision to suit you.

Its a massive decision ... Tom has the right to take all the time he needs. FGS he is only 19-20 learning the game.

As RR said ... possible once in a lifetime. Give the bloke a break.

Re GWS ... far from underestimating them ... but they are like any other club they have to make very, very wise list management decisions. They are not stupid. If they act irresponsibly ... it will be them ripe for the pickings in a few years.

Its a game ... all is never as it appears.

I too didnt want to accept that he would be going. But too many aspects of the rumours have since been confirmed as fact.

Originally i thought, why would they even want scully? The rumours must be wrong? Surely they want Murphy or Pendlebry?! This is some rumour started to distract the media from their real targets? WRONG! Velocity confirmed an offer

Originally i thought, Surely they wouldn’t offer a 3rd year player that type of money? The rumours must be wrong? WRONG! Velocity confirmed an offer

Only piece of the puzzle that isnt in place yet is Scully doing a press conference in Blacktown with Sheedy, telling us how exited he is to be playing with Izzy Falou and a bunch of teenagers :(

I imagine its going to be peppered with lots of man love for his lifetime hero Kevin Sheedy and how it was his life dream to play under him.

Exactly if anything it would probably increase your resolve .... especially with the reaction of so many. I'm sure Tom could never have expected some of the BS that has shot his way. I should add he probably never could have expected some of the apathy & aloofness either regarding this whole saga. Velocity have done their client proud ... and all on public record for all to read.

I'm 100% convinced he is glad he waited ... he is truly learning the game. He is truly learning who is "mates" are. B)

It was confirmed that GWS gave Scully's management an offer, after Scully's management prompted them to do so.

The details of the offer have not been released - only wildly speculated upon.

So... to say that GWS wanted Scully over Murphy or Pendlebury is a furphy.

GWS could have offered $500K a year for all we know, and it could have been only at Scully's behest, not because they've been eyeing him off all along, ahead of other targets.

There also has been no official word of the actual money on offer from GWS.

It's all speculation.

Try again, fearmonger.

Nothing wrong with speculation. I would have thought thats about the only use for a Scully thread? We wont know either way until September?

Lets lay the facts on the table;

Scully says he hasnt made a decision and wont until the end of the season

Scully hasnt signed with MFC although they have made an offer

Scully hasnt signed with GWS although they have made an offer

Not cold hard facts, but Factors which lead to me "speculate" that Scully is going to GWS

Rumours about scully signing with GWS were floating around for months before velocity confirmed contact with them

GWS have confirmed they are interested in him and other young players

If scully wanted to stay with the MFC he could have signed a long time ago

Letting this drama continue to play out is damaging his reputation - Unless he has something to hide surley he would want the speculation to stop, and could do so by signing with MFC?

Majority of Football media believe Scully is going to play with GWS next year

Similarities between Scully's situation and Goldcoast recruits from last year

Leaving china trip during GWS' window for signing agreements with players

$$$$$$$$$$

Concerns over MFC culture, leadership etc

Factors which lead to me "speculate" that Scully is staying with MFC

Scully said in a press conference months ago that he said he "anticipate" that he would be a one club player

He's a mummy's boy and wouldnt want to move away from his family

So basically, i feel there are more reasons to doubt him staying with us than there are to believe he will stay.

Call it fear mongering if you like...but on the flip side, refusing to consider that he may well leave MFC becasue you are blinded for your love for MFC is just plain stupid IMO

Short of hard facts, it becomes a matter of intuition on the question of whether he is staying. I am inclined to believe he will stay.

And I will still stand by the kid on what he said - I do not believe he has already signed.

And I think the 'No Comment' point can be made when one doesn't make an actual comment.

I never said anyone wasn't...

And with due respect, I said there is an absence of hard facts.

Here is a fact - Tom Scully said he hadn't signed anything.

This does not mean he hasn't signed anything, what it means is that either he hasn't signed anything or he is a liar and he has.

I am making a judgement call that he isn't a liar. And of course, my judgement call doesn't make it factual - I don't think I have ever implied I had that sort of power...

Maybe you have imbued me with that power?

rpfc is so right, so often that BB59 believes - as rpfc posts, facts and truth are posted...

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
