After an enjoyable weekend following the Hawks and pretending they were my team and trying to forget I have followed the Dees for 53 years I have thought long and deep about following one side in a team sport with so little success for half a century.

The joy I have seen from most other team supporters over that period looks fantastic from the outside.

Unlike a lot of others I have seen two flags but to be honest I can barely remember the first and the second and last is beginning to fade.

That joy I have not seen for 49 years.

I have asked myself numerous times over the last two years why I go on.

If I am very honest it is that while the MFC exists I cannot leave.

Strange to continue to put myself though such pain with almost no chance of getting the ultimate goal in my lifetime.

Late last night I ask myself ( over a single malt or two ) would The worst thing be for the MFC to disappear?

The answer for me is no.

The worst thing for me would be to go on producing results like the last two years.

So I will go on buying memberships and going to games with a forlorn hope of improvement.

However too many more like the last two and I think I am done.

But can the bloody MFC improve to the point Where I can look for to winter weekends with a chance of winning games?

That is all I ask, not too much is it?

I feel your pain having missed those two flag just. All I think is if we have finally got rid of the overpaid clowns running the place and we have professional people in charge we will go forward,drafting will still have its problems, there will be wins and losses but if the decision making is right, if there is a coherent strategy to get ahead, we will. For so long we have been lead by part time, narrow thinking near do wells on the Board.

I think I am missing something when it comes to this thread. The point is????

Just hand around, observe, take part when it feels right etc. That is probably quicker than picking up all the nuances (such as when to mention bananas, when not to and how alpacas fit into the scheme of things ... ) Occasionally there is footy talk too!

Now the only thing left to do this year is see who the MFC recruits and what will happen to Messendon.

Its been a long and draining season for me so very glad its now over.

Nice to meet you guys on this forum as I live in Country WA so there is very few MFC supporters around here.

I have enjoyed having a joke or two as well as venting on the Demonland Forums this season. God knows I needed it at times.

Oh OD this Avatar symbolises the MFC needs to be much more unforgiving and aggressive in the 2014 and beyond seasons. No more Mr Nice Demon.

And no more red and blue? Pity that ... For that matter, I don't think I have ever met a 'nice demon', let alone one that insisted on being called "Mr"

We all feel your pain, OD, but I don't share the sentiment about disappearing. We all want improvement, and it is long overdue. Who knows about winning games, but I like to think that if we can put Hogan, Dawes and Clark all on the park in round 1, hopefully at the MCG, then I will certainly be sitting near where the old race was and cheering the boys on ...

Well honestly I didnt think I had !!! Ive accompanied them on a 4 hr...yes FOUR F"N HOURS shopping at Chaddy. There's a day I'll nver get back lol.

Latest report from Mrs. Redleg is that the cruise continues and the ship has docked at a port in the south of France after initially crossing into Italian waters. There's apparently a storm on the way and I suspect that Redleg himself might be a little seasick.

Take this with a grain of salt if you wish but I tracked their course on a map of the Mediterranean and discovered that its shape perfectly matches that of a banana.

I can feel your pain as to the lack of success.

My first passion being a Western Australian was the West Perth FC and I remember the 20 years wait between the 1975 and 1995 Premierships. I had the hunger that was growing year by year. The day they won the 1995 (they won three more since) was special as the day before and the day after the victory I had a 12 hour drive to get to and from the game, it was worth every second of the 24 hour drive. The only Grand Final since 1975 that the WPFC was not the under dog was the 1993 (the year the Club relocated its home ground from Leederville Oval) which it was the minor Premiers.

On the VFL and AFL front, I did not support any particular team until the WCE entered the competition. As a supporter of the WCE they gave me two Premiership wins before I moved my support to the MFC back in 1999. I had enjoy the 2000 Grand Final which the MFC was clearly the under dog and the EFC was clearly the outstanding team all season. Unfortunately the MFC has a history of being up one year and down the next. Although it been pretty much down over the past seven years. The MFC has never won a Premiership since I was born, which was in the late 60's.

My hunger for success would not be as great as your OD with regards to the MFC for obvious reasons. But when the Club does turn things around on field as it must do (see the Hawkes) and wins its 13th Flag. That will be a very special day indeed for you. I can honestly say that will mean more to you then the 11 Hawks Premierships combined means to their supporters.

So keep keeping the Faith and remember all good things come to he who waits. Plus what other team could you possibility support? I had a look in 1999 at what AFL team I could support and IMO there was only one, the MFC. I like Under Dog teams and think its a poor supporter who only picks winning teams.

The MFC has done all it can off the field in 2013 and as supporters we are all waiting to see what the Club can do on the field in 2014 and beyond.

Just because he lived a few doors down to Lathlain Park (now its the WCE training ground) which is Perth's home ground IMO is no excuse to change teams.

Now if you want another team which will not win a Premiership with in the next 20 to 50 years that will be Perth. Its last Premiership was in 1977 and that Club can lose close to its entire League team from one season to the next.

When my Father was alive and the MFC had real AFL players, I loved calling him when we beat the Shockers. I am not sure if it was my singing voice or if he was too busy at the time, but I did hear him say to Mum "I don't want to speak with him" when I called after the games. I even played the 2008 You Tube video of the 51 point come back from behind victory on my TV for him when he came to visit. It these special family times that makes all the difference.

RBB I would link borrowing the car etc to how many MFC games your children attend. This works equally as well on the amount you spend on their presents as well. I know some may consider it a little harsh, but if you love them it these little things that's important and you don't want them to support Collingwood!

If you have daughters grab a few MFC Membership Forms for when they bring boys home. You can never be too prepared and a great test if they are truly committed to the potential relationship.

I cannot decry her decision years ago to follow the Bombers she has seen way more wins and a number of GF wins

However I will keep my powder dry till the "Essendon Player Problem" is resolved.

Thankfully they tend to not be interested in footy at all, rather than side with the filth. They are not yet up to borrowing the car, but when they are, I'll keep that in mind. However, somehow I don't think it will work the way you intend it to ...

Year after Year they get nearly a million extra in their salary cap.

I am not a fan of GWS but how are they supposed to get better when their neighbour rapes them at every turn.

The AFL is now a dog eat dog world that I find less to like with every passing week.

Might retire to the AMOS and enjoy my dotage!

My lot ?? One daughter an Ainter, the other a Bomber like her older brother but the younger ones will still answer to Demons when asked. Still hes a bit mad and likes to have a point of difference with most folk...lol

They take pity on me and my good wife for having the selfless compassion to marry me anyways .

And I thought I was in hell when my father (my he rest in peace) became a Dockers members. But I am hearing that many people are much worse off then me. They actually have Collingwood supporters in their family.

BB you are a Saint! Having found a nest of Pie supporters and you are still there trying to convert them to the Light (MFC).

Now all you need is for the MFC to build a team that is capable of smashing Collingwood.

I am afraid I would have the 1964 GF permanently playing on the TV with Its a Grand Old Flag playing in the background, if I was in your shoes, every time the family came for a visit. Plus every Xmas I would buy the wife a MFC Membership, if she complains I would get her two members. One for her dog as well.

No they are all good as I found them in a bin at the back of Windy Hill. They were in a box that had a label saying these are not banned substances which was signed by J Hird and S Danks.

So they look legit to me.

OD. I think in the interests of Redleg's health, it's fortunate that he's sailing off the coast of France, heading in the direction of Spain and oblivious to today's developments.

I reckon he might be saying that the game as we all knew it died today. I found it distasteful when that nameless person jerked the club around in 2011 knowing he was going to GWS but I found the news that Buddy's management approached the Swans soon after last year's grand final rather appalling. I'm sure Redleg would feel the same way.

I suppose we have to get used to it but I thought free agency was designed to help battlers get to other AFL clubs. I'm not so sure that's happening the way the Player's Association envisaged things when it was first mooted.
