Tom Scully

Cameron effectively said we are financially able to, and have room under the cap to match the offer, but it doesn't allow the club to reward the other players as they progress through the ranks.

He wasn't keen to talk about compensation should we lose him but said there was a system in place and he was part of the team that put it together.

He also said that Tom Scully is a great kid and doesn't like all the things that are gong on and being said.

The Carbon tax and the T Scully sagas, sick of it all!!Certainly I would like him to stay, but if several mill are on offer to him, good luck to him I say.I do think that the hype over him has become overwhelming and personally speaking I doubt he will be as good as they say he will. His myth has taken on Messiah like status, I certainly don't want Melbourne to bust the bank over him at the expense of our other LOYAL young players I believe him to be an early developer with dodgy knees!!We don't want to be in another debt demolition, while filling his pockets. For what its worth GWS have taken over from my long time hatred of the Bombers to be my number one object of loathing!!He will suffer there with his millions and he won't get his fulfilment on the footy field playing in front of a small crowd who has hasn't a clue whats going on and don't really care!!

I agree with you here Scullitor, but there is nothing that has happened so far to suspect that Tom is not loyal, so I don't understand why people keep mentioning other "loyal" players. Tom has had all of this thrust upon him. He didn't ask for it, but is doing his best to deal with it. Question his loyalty IF he decides to go, but until then, he is just as loyal as any other player at the club. Would we be questioning the loyalty of Trenners if he was in the same position Tom is in??

Thanks guys. I didn't see the other thread. Long day, I'm afraid.

Enjoy that website Rojik, I love it. And if you have an iPhone, you can even get it as an app and listen from your phone.

Yes point taken Kento the LOYAL thing was just a bit of frustration creeping in I'm afraid. : ( I am 50/ 50 about the whole sorry saga and that I really don't know what to believe! with all the dis -information flying about!

Fair enough I guess. Just believe the kid, it really does make me feel much more at ease. And the article today is the only one with real quotes from real people, which makes the whole sorry saga even easier again. The other thing that helped me firm in my positive views of Tom has been Wolfmothers comments in this thread, as he seems to be the only person on here who actually knows Tom and talks to him about it.

I would play footy in a pink dress and a pair of stilettos for 1 million a year.........Tom just has to show up.

No no no..you mis understood your contract. They were paying you a million a year NOT to wear a pink dress and stilettos. I repeat NOT. :)

Any chance the media will stop referring to the GWS "multi million dollar" offer, while completely ignoring Melbourne's own multi million dollar offer.

If you are optimistic about Tom staying, you better not read this tweet stream.

Oh FFS.

OK it's official, some guy heard from his mate that Lynch nodded his head. It's all over.

Nope......

I'm not going to change my views based on Darrens twitter stream, but I know Darren and I don't think for a second that he would say all of that unless he was as certain as he could be that his source was on the money. He is a massive Dees fan, and a positive one at that, and I really can't see him wanting to fan the flames unless he had accepted that it is the case. This is not a good turn of events at all, but I am still gonna "believe in Tom" (sorry rpfc, wasn't trying to steal it)

I'm confident he will stay. Im just going to wait the 2 months or so until we get a proper announcement.

Those tweet streams are ridiculous. Scully to leave Melbourne for GWS because Melbourne aren't professional enough - seriously? Every club has drinking problems among the ranks, and a new franchise full of 18 year olds on ridiculous money is going to be the worst of the lot.

OK it's official, some guy heard from his mate that Lynch nodded his head. It's all over.

And the fact that this exchange occurred to people IN THE MEDIA means its probably a load of horseshite. As if sheahan or one of the other wouldnt have this on the back page of the little paper if this had actually happened.

Especially with The Mean Fiddler just around the corner  !!!

Exactly.

They report sh!t that never happens, let alone stuff that does happen.

I'm sure Lynch said he went too far with his comments, because it put a serious dent in GWS' move, but FFS why would he then turn around off air and declare that he's going, when at the time no offers were made, nothing was signed and nothing was even decided (and it still hasn't).

Besides, just because Lynch/Schwartz/Sheehan believe that Scully should go, doesn't mean he will. I think he'll make a life changing decision based on his opinion and the opinion of his family, and not take life advice from his accountant, media commentators or indeed his manager who works on commission. Laughable.

Can we at least give this kid some credit? He isn't some homeless bozo we picked up off the streets.

Agree.

Jimmy not professional? Cam not professional? Todd not professional? Leadership group not professional? AAMI Park not professional? MCC not professional? Yep sure.

I read the tweets and it doesn't make sense. Firstly, Lynch is too professional to tell anyone, even off camera and secondly, why didn't Gerard then probe him following this shake of the head? Ever heard of Chinese whispers? It's amazing how a shrug can turn into a shake of the head. Especially when the watcher may already have their own preconceived ideas.

It's a widely held belief in media circles that Scully is gone, so it's not surprising that Darren's mate has heard the same stuff. When everyone is saying the same thing it becomes more compelling - even if it isn't true.

I have absolutely no reason to believe that Scully is a liar and that this isn't one big charade that's thriving on its own momentum.

EDIT: Lynch would have said he went "too far" because he shouldn't have given any sense of where things are at. Do you know why? He doesn't know. So making any assertion one way or another, no matter how slight, wasn't professional.

tweet streams are the new news .

I work for Murdoch so I'll just get you a transcript of a tapped conversation between TS and Alistair Lynch.

AL So can you sign up in August Tom?

TS Maybe after September

AL Sheeds wants...

TS F#@$ Sheeds. I dont work for Sheeds!

AL We worked hard on this deal Tommy

TS Don't call Me Tommy ,Dont call me at all .

AL I told you I'm a demon for life mate .Talk to Sheeds and tell him to call me in 5 years .When he'll be in a lunatic asylum .

Care of FOX media .

Sounds like his management team is unprofessional.... If they are going round saying crap like that off camera... Dont believe it.

I would play footy in a pink dress and a pair of stilettos for 1 million a year.........Tom just has to show up.

I would play footy in the centre for Melbourne every week for absolutely free, if I was good enough and they wanted me there. Any payment would be an amazing bonus. The thought of doing it every week for GWS just makes me feel all the pain and effort. They would have to pay me a mill to even consider. But then I'm not Tom and he's not me :)

Last time I saw Tom play footy in Pink he got 40 possessions....

Agree.

ummm

So many people and things pointing to the fact that he is going isn't a coincidence.

It's all very similar to the Ablett situation last year.

I am a big Dees fan but those who keep pushing things to the side and not believing them are either in denial or off their heads.

He is a midfielder who can be replaced. There will plenty of room in the cap for a free agent. I say target Buddy!

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
