I didn't see DB pumping up Jurrah but I definitely thought we were deliberately trying to involve him in the game during that last quarter.

Jurrah is the type of players that you keep persisting with unless his body is utterly falling apart, because he will:

A- always draw a quality defender who will rarely risk running off him

B- can do ridiculous things and turn games in a matter of minutes

C- no matter who replaces him, they are very unlikely to deliver 2-3 goals every single week

Jurrah Morton & Bartram were all crap.

Morton can not contest a loose ball, just gets pushed off it to easy.

Bartram does his best work without the ball.

I admit I don't understand how things are recorded. But can it be a "loose ball" if he's being pushed off it? Doesn't that make it a contested ball?

On the point in question, a quick read of this and other threads makes it clear...Morton is hard and soft, skilful and full of flaws, admired and despised. Is there anyone else who polarises Demon supporters more?

Morton- soft as butter

People are starting to bag Morton irregardless of how he actually plays.

Watched the replay yesterday and thought he was excellent. He now realises he has to go in when it's his turn. He's always be outside player, but every team needs them. He's still very very young, he's only just began to develop his body to AFL standard, and since he's come back in the team he's contributed positively each and every week.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's the type of player where everything just clicks when he turns 24/25 and turns from an ok play to a great player

I like Morton, but there were 4-5 pretty ordinary contests out on the southern side of the ground. He wasn't helped by the wind, given it made reading the ball a bit more difficult, but he needs to be stronger in the contest. He fluffed the ball a bit by foot as well.

Bartram - Sam Blease please!

Watts - joy to watch

Bennell - very limited opportunity

Frawley - strut is returning

Trengove - strong and committed

Morton - good in patches

Sylvia - grunt and skill

McKenzie - should clone him

I guess he is as frustrating as our club - there is too wide a gap between his best efforts ( sublime) and his worst efforts ( ugggh)

one thing we can say about Morton is forget his height because he's not solid enough in the marking contest to use it, his kicking is generally average under no pressure, and poor under pressure. So what we have is a player with good endurance, average kicking, poor mark for his height and questionable hardness at the contest.

i'm going to go early and say he has zero chance of becoming a great player.

Actually I thought he has taken some nice one on one marks this year - one of his redeeming features and has rarely been outmarked. On the downside - there have been a few marking contests that he hasnt got to where i think he should have - not quite committed enough to jump when he should have - for instance the Leroy Brown goal square mark last week

There is no doubt Morton struggles with the tough stuff. He's in for a treat against the Tigers who will no doubt line him up. He's a couple of preseasons away from being big enough to really impact games. It will happen. He's 21, he'll likely be a very good player when he's 24 - 25 (as mentioned by others)

Strauss wasn't "good".

And I am yet to see this much vaunted elite kicking.It's early days but it doesn't do it for me.

His opponents did not score and he had over 80% disposal efficiency. Looks like did alright for me.

The thing that keeps me optimistic about Morton is when I think back to Big Footy threads like this one in 2005:

"Can anyone one tell me what if anything Brendan Goddard does for the St Kilda football club. If he fell off the earth tomorrow would it make any difference to St Kildas team... in fact it would probably improve the team if anything.

I cant believe anyone can criticise Luke Hodge when Brendan Goddard is still wearing an AFL guernsey. No more of this developing crap, its about time Goddard started to actually do something on the field. His disposal is shocking (3 behinds today), he plays like a fairy, he has no defensive skills... im at a struggle to find what this guy is actually good at that got St Kilda interested enough to use the no 1 draft pick on him.."

Hopefully the negative Morton threads will seem just as ridicules in a few years...

I said it with Jack Watts and I'll say it with Cale - when he gets to 23/24 and is still showing worrying signs then i will moan - but he is in development mode. Let him develop

The replay doesn't show him standing around on the wing when the ball is 100m away though, or lurking way outside the contests, the cameras seem to focus on where the ball is hence why Morton doesn't seem that bad...

I was at the game too big red, standing near the wing watching Morton jog 20 metres one way then back again right in front of me, laid one good tackle the whole game, rest of the time hung around waiting for someone to get the ball for him, I desperately want him to be everything he's meant to be but something isn't quite working for him right now

I was on the members wing when he backed back to make a spoil knowing he was possibly going to cop hard body contact and did a great job in getting it over the boundary line.

My main beef is that he did some really good contested work and a couple of other times I thought he could have gone harder.

I am still in the "give him more time" camp - 21 with a body and football brain that is still developing.
