Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

One of his last tweets was he was certain we'd reach 40000 members. Well we going to be about 4000 short of that so our revenue budget will be short by about $450,000. Wonder if he is still projecting a profit?

Don't want to move the discussion too much off topic, but I think the most damage to our membership growth this year was done at the WC game. I certainly felt a huge defaltion at the effort of the team and the coaching panel during and after that game. Would be interesting to see how the rate of memberships was tracking before and after that debacle. Performance in the early games is really critical to getting supporters on the wagon.

I do .

Tho' I do dip me lid to Smorgan as he kept the Dogs alive .

This is the AFL , success means Flags .

Kept 'em alive, their thriving.. you've got to look at it from a perspective of what they've been for the last 50 Years to see how well they've done.

They've built a steady and constant platform from which they can launch their next assault thats forming as we speak, with the new blood coming in to that side.

The saints area more concern with their negative style. But they to have some young coming through.

Building a side means flag potential, which I guess to you means success. You seem to think that building a sound list and team can be bought at the nearest mobile phone shop. Underestimating the work that is involved in doing this.

em, I thought your post was about trying to have a crack at him.

I hope there's not a political movement creeping around the skirting boards?

Not gagged by the board, but it was reported that there has been a decisive shift to promoting Bailey and the team on-field, rather than the club off-field.

I thought this was common knowledge.

CS would be shying away from excessive use of twitter to avoid the perception that he was trying to undermine Bailey's wish to have the team be the focus.

Fair enough, when you know what Caroline Wilson is like...

As far as I know, the shift was before the season started. Schwab didn't stop using twitter at the start of the year.

Mate , they've done nothing for 50 years and Smorgan has saved 'em .

Your Idea and mine about thriving are obviously different.

Where is it that I say this ?

Pfft ... Yeah right .

The saints area more concern with their negative style. But they to have some young coming through.

Double Pfft .

Lyon is the worst thing that happened to that club .

Thomas had them playing exciting footy the was the talk of the football world .

If he hadn't have had a personal fallout with Buttress he'd still be there with possibly a flag or 2.

Their youth is nothing compared to the core of that club which the club was built around .

Once Reiwoldt , Hayes , Dal Santo , Montagna & co are gone they'll have Nothing .

Their goose is cooked .

Ooop ... Game time , gotta go .

Thats the worst piece of revisionist history I have read for some time on here. Could not be more wrong. At the end of 2006, Thomas was finished ahd the wheels were off the Saints.

FFS, Lyon went within a kick of a flag and he is the worst thing to happen to the Saints. At least Malcolm Blight and Tim Watson can breathe easy now.

Finished at the end of 2006 because he had a fallout with Buttress .

The only reason we beat them in the Elimination final was cause they lost Gehrig , Harvey and both Clarkes during the game .

Yeah Lyon took them to within a point of the flag with a mature list .

Also got smashed in game 2 because he refused to learn any lessons from the previous week .

Do you think they should get rid of him at the end of the year ?

Be lucky to even make the finals and who cares , no-one wants to watch them play his negative game plan anyhoo .

It sounds to me like you haven't been around much and witnessed much. The Doggies as a club have been perennial easybeats since the 50's. The success and consolidation from that point, to where they are now, (as far as building cultural 'Self Belief' is massive) is a solid platform to build the next Push forward. They have quite a good bit of quality coming through to add & strengthen their current position. The Interim changeover period of Old to Inexperienced, is turbulent time.

The saints are a side thats Too one dimesional. Their players have been brought in and Indoctrinated into the Negative game so much that when they try to attack,,, they don't remember how to do it Collectively as a team... But Ross Lyon has done a great Job getting an So So list, and Club to the last 2 Grand Finals. They have to do a rejig of the side, one way or another, because there lost when trying to play attacking footy.

This is why Bailey must let this side learn to attack first, to learn to break through the floods and presses. We have to learn that, Prior to learning the defensive Press.... The Saints can 'Press',,, But haven't learnt to 'Attack', and don't know how to..

We have to learn How to Score in todays defensive football,,, before we start to shutdown sides. If we don't we won't learn it.

I can't remember exactly, but I was under the impression it happened around the time of the most recent Whiteboard Wednesday.

In any case, I'm pretty sure it was near the same time as the conclusion of the review that was undertaken.

Didn't see them win their last flag , never saw us win ours and didn't see the Saints win theirs .

Been around long enough and witnessed enough to know we're all basket cases .

The Dog's won't be winning a flag anytime soon with or without Smorgan , neither will the Aints with Lyon.

Will we .... With the GC's bag of up an coming youngsters I'm having my doubts .

The Saints can 'Press',,, But haven't learnt to 'Attack', and don't know how to..

The Aints once new all about attack , they've since had that instinct coached out of them .

I'm not the 1 who's dee-luded , same with your 1 game wonder mate up there Rhino Richards .

Some would say this.. but some could also provide the notes that he and CC also failed at Fremantle.

I don't think so. Certainly not off the field.

This rings true:

CC may have not done the best job as coach but CS certainly did a great job for Freo his record speaks for itself. No matter how the on field form was like CS took a financial basket case of a club and made it profitable in a short period of time.

About 3,500 short of the "target", but 1,500 or thereabouts over the "budget".

Their target and what they actually budgeted for could be to different things.

Bingo.

FFS, Lyon went within a kick of a flag and he is the worst thing to happen to the Saints.

Very close to winning two flags.

Here's an article written before the season started:

DEAN Bailey will be more prominent as the face of Melbourne this year.

The coach and his players are to become the "shopfront" of the Demons after Bailey told the board it was time for football to be the major focus.

In recent years, strong personalities such as president Jim Stynes, football boss Chris Connolly and chief executive Cameron Schwab have been on centre stage as the club rebuilt.

"Now, quite clearly, there is an understanding that from this point onwards the team is the shopfront," Schwab said yesterday.

Well there ya go.

Thanks for going to the effort to... uh... trying to figure out how to make this not sound sarcastic... show me where I was going wrong?

Anyway, I am appreciative.

Top hit on google for the search 'bailey focus on football on-field', so not much effort at all :)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
