And If he only gets 10 to 15 touches a game lays 6 to 8 tackles and kicks 4 thats going to suit me fine.

I dont mind if he gets 6 touches and kicks 6 (plus tackles).

Imagine you play for the MFC, you are running down the wing and you look up and see Jack Watts and Liam Jurrah, Jack is on a good lead if you hit him he will be 40m out. Then the other option is Jurrah 25m out from goal standing still, which option would you take?

Turning ther footy over 25m out is less risk and I think that is the issue, we are not playing well players are not taking the right option because they are fearful of turning the footy over and getting hurt on the rebound. As we start playing better and I hope it is from this week our confidence grows and you will find we will start taking the best option, and not think about turning the footy over.

I would take the option which is the safest option. That is, which player is in the best position to receive the ball and is in the better position compared to their opposition defenders. If Jack has a good metre or so on his man while leading while Liam is a one on one wrestle with his defender, then go to Jack.

I think the reason that we our team is so ineffective with our inside 50 entries is because we don't choose the best option often enough. Too many times we seem to just have a long bomb into the forward line where an opposition defender can just float back and block out our leading forwards. This team needs to lower its eyes more and find those players in space, and in a position to better our next movement into the forward line.

In basketball ball movement is crucial in opening up space, and teams that just have one pass and shoot often get beaten. I see no difference in football. Those teams that continue to look for the best option when moving forward, and utilising ball movement to keep the defence on their toes, are more effective with their forward 50 entries and more successful as a team.

When Neitz was around when too often just bombed it long to him. We're doing the same with Jurrah. I think our forward line setup was actually more effective when we just played with a lot of mid-sized forwads that kept moving. I'm talking about the Petterd, Dunn, Green, Bate, Bennell etc lineup. No-one was a particular focus in that forward line, but our movement into the forward line certainly looked better.

John Coleman had the same complaint about his team-mates as an 18 and 19 year old in Practice Matches at Essendon.

He debuted at 20 and kicked twelve in his first game then 100 for the season (21 games).

For those that say it was a different game then, I agree, it was much harder for a any forward let alone a 20 year old.

Not sure about Coleman's life pre-footy but where was he playing before he debuted? Bet it was not for his high school whilst also choosing between AFL and a career in another professional sport?

This is something I've noticed also. It's not just been the last one or two games, this was consistently happening all last year. I don't see why his strength (or lack thereof) in a marking contest would be an issue if he has metres on his opponent. The only thing that makes any sense is that he has got on the wrong side of a few players for whatever reason. This could be his attitude, his perceived favoured treatment from the coaches, the media spotlight, his failure to take a game apart??? I'm not saying that this is the case (and if it were in a professional sports club that would be a disgrace and indictment on the players) but I can't think of what else it could be other than he is running to the wrong spaces.

Sometimes I also get frustrated, and just wish he'd bloody dominate one match to shut everybody up.

But then i remember that he's 20 yr old, essentially in his second year of footy.... and that plenty of other KPPs who were high draft picks got years to develop without any of this kind of pressure.

Did anyone scream at Chris Dawes to bloody do something already when he hardly played a senior game in his first 3 seasons of footy?

Is it frustrating? YES. But he has at least 12 years of footy and at least 3 years before anybody should consider writing him off.

Patience is very difficult, but it is necessary here
