Wow. McCarthy fired?!!

Poor timing by an organisation that has lost its way ... need a restructure,  rebuild,  cleanout and a do-over.  Not in totality of course.  We are not the Demons of 2012/13.

They should have waited until the end of the season and I will not be changing my mind even if we somehow manage to win our last 4 games.

It is a panic move even though we do need a change at Head coach.  At least we've got one asset - Rodgers.  That is about it.

Packers need a totally new D. Can't be needing to score 30+ points to win most weeks.

The core issue is the antiquated thinking ... the D is merely a symptom.  We have a myriad of issues not just the most obvious.

We have one great asset (Rodgers) so it is not like it is ground zero ... 12 months hard work and a lot can be fixed in the NFL.

Rams not playing the best today but doing enough to get the win. Miss Kupp big time.

The D looked much better with Talib out there and when he came off they scored a TD on that drive. They are limiting his snaps this week. Build more over the coming weeks.

Takeways:

Barkley is something else. Turning on a dime and impossible to take down.

The Chargers are a force to be reckoned with in the AFC. There is so much all round talent on this roster, maybe not quite as much as the Rams but not far off.

While I remain sceptical on Baker Mayfield (and all rookie QBs for that matter) I have to say he’s on track. He sees he field very well and his awareness in the pocket very high level.

Jags offense not any better with Kessler but the D sure as heck stood up

The Broncos? Could they? Nahhhh. Well they have got the hard part of their schedule out of the way and are now battle hardened so you never know.

The straw that broke the camel’s back in Green Bay. Fingers should be pointed all over the place but McCarthy takes the bullet and it’s probably the right call although the timing is pretty poor. A good coach but he’s run his course with the Packers. Ryan Clark on ESPN feels that he hasn’t really evolved as a coach and that his play calls have largely been the same for many years whereas Sean Payton has progressed and has let Brees do his thing. Hopefully they get the best possible guy for Rodgers and the offense which could use a lift.

On the flip side while not being spectacular Josh Rosen showed good resolve. He seems like the kind of QB that can forget the last play.

Speaking of long term coaches, will Marv Lewis serve the second year of his contract or is it time to start fresh? The Bengals do look stale.

And the Niners, absolutely terrible. First half of the season we’d at least play with heart but it’s like they have gotten worse each week. Worst performance of the season bar the Rams game. I like Shanahan but I’m still not sold on him as a head coach, brilliant OC though. Have to give it more time yet again.

Must-win for the Eagles tomorrow ... should be a good game being divisional rivals and all that.  If Washington win that will mark the 7th road winner for the week.

But I reckon Philadelphia will keep their hopes alive with a win.  ESPN Playoff Machine

Looking forward to this game today. Both teams are banged up and it looks like it will come down to who can stay toughest the longest. Hopefully the Eagles get it done and if their D can force a few extra possessions I think they can. Sproles back and a line that is getting healthier will help as well. Though Colt McCoy has done it before on Monday night so don't rule him out.

Sanchez in at QB, first play, hand off to AP... 90yard TD!

Not much happened for Washington after that ... thought we'd seen the end of Sanchez but with McCoy going down he was next in line.

Eagles now go to Big D for the division lead.  Late arvo Sunday game.  Every game is like a final for the contenders in the NFC East from here on in.  Eagles did what they had to do today and they're therefore still alive.

In other news I did not enjoy reading the following article ... tail wagging the dog and all that so GB have got the job ahead of them in terms of getting back on track.

I suppose a number of QB's have got some sort of autonomy with regards to play calling but it looks like things have gotten out of hand.  It is not a good look regardless.  Given the circumstances I'd be going for a strong-minded experienced coach for the restructure,  rebuild,  cleanout & do-over.  And the handling of Rodger looks like being too big a job for a rookie.

Interesting read, doesn’t surprise me. I work with a mad packers fan and we were discussing it today and I said that the big Hail Mary and late game wins probably prolonged this situation a year or two more.

Once soured, it was never going to come back. Be interesting to hear what comes out in the press over the coming weeks.

I must say I am a little surprised with the play calling but the bottom line is that the team surrounding Rodgers is way below par.  Weaknesses absolutely everywhere - especially with the whole defense but the offense is struggling big time as well.

And the coaching & recruiting isn't up to scratch either ... but I still would have had McCarthy coach out the season.  To sack him an hour after the game was classless & crass.

As a club you've always got to portray a decent image in order to attract the best people for the future.  To be honest,  we've acted like rank amateurs.  And I'd say most GB fans would have the same opinion.  Nothing to be gained by the reactionary move and a fair bit to lose Gorg.

Yeah agree @Macca.

The timing surprised me, as said especially an hour post game.

But now you have the month to scout the talent openly.

I'd be guessing that they might already have got someone in mind

There are restrictions on OC's & DC's in terms of the timing of the appointments too.  Meanwhile,  having Philbin in charge complicates matters

1 point on offer this week ... a number of strong road favourites again but upsets do happen as we saw last week when the Saints & Bears both lost when both were heavily favoured to win.

Week 15 carries 2 points,  Week 16 just the 1 point and Week 17 carries 3 points.

At this stage everyone is still in contention but with a total of 8 points still available,  the backmarkers might have to win-out to have a chance of winning outright.

Good luck all.

Pats, Saints, Steelers

Guessing they’ll be the popular picks this week

Saints, Broncos, Rams..

Until its mathematically impossible for me to win this I'm dreaming of an '87-esque  finals run

I'm reckoning the Rams as well.  Denver also.  There's maybe a trap game or 2 in there but I reckon the Steelers are a stone-cold lock.   Surely they won't lose to Oakland?

The games of real interest are the Ravens @ KC,  Eagles @ Cowboys,   Rams @ Bears & Vikings @ Seattle.   Indi @ Texans is a good match-up too.

The December run-in is always full of highlights even though our 2 teams are out of it JV.

I wouldn’t entirely write off the Bears against the Rams.

The run home is definitely starting to heat up, love this time of year teams playing for playoff spots conenciding with summer holidays.

Yeah going to be a battle of the strugglers between our sides this week, been a disappointing year from both teams

Yeah,  I was going to say 'May the better team win' but there is no better team JV ?

I actually reckon the Falcons may well win as the Packers are a mess right now ... it's not like GB can go to a different play book.  It will be more of the same.

They may well hand it off to Jones a bit more but that won't make much difference ... and our group of WR's are below average too.

Thus,  Atlanta should then be able to rack-up enough points against a below average D.

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
