How did Austin go?

I've only seen highlights and read up on it but he had 6 catches 41 yards so decent first up

TV games for week 2 ...

10.25am NY Jets at New England ESPN & OneHD

Mon Sept 16

3.00am Cleveland at Baltimore OneHD

6.05am Detroit at Arizona Fox1

6.25am Denver at NY Giants OneHD

10.30am San Francisco at Seattle ESPN & OneHD

Tues Sept 17

10.30am Pittsburgh at Cincinnati ESPN

... All the other week 2 games

My road team tips this week ...

New Orleans

San Francisco

Minnesota

This might be one of those weeks where there aren't 3 'Away' winners. However, it wouldn't surprise me if there are 5 or 6. In the first month last season, there were 7 or 8 road team victories in 3 of the 4 weeks. The Saints should win but they're no certainties.

Could be an interesting game tomorrow. You'd expect the Patriots to win comfortably but if the defense of the Jets can stand up, it might end up being closer than people think. Will Rex spring a surprise or 2?

Tough tipping this week. The Jets could actually win. Pats have a few injuries so you never now but hell no i'm not tipping them.

Dallas

New Orleans

San Francisco

I missed everything about the opening round with the exception of the first game last week.

What happened to San Franciso?

49ers won last week.

They played well against a tough Green Bay. After a bit of mid week trash talk kapernick didn't run the ball that much but he threw for a ton of yards. There was a sideline scuffle over a late hit on kapernick but they had pads and helmets on (when will they learn?) tough game this week for San Fran at Seattle these divisional rivals could argue that their rivalry is the biggest in the NFL.

Thanks for that CFH.

It means one more win and they've already matched the Demons' season.

Broncos

Lions

Saints

for me this week!

New England look they still have a bit of work to do to be a force. Brady clearly missing Gronk, Welker and Hernandez.

Geno Smith would have to be the most overrated rookie in years, 3 INTS!

Well, we've equalled last season's win total. Good times. This one was closer than I thought it would be, after watching what was a pretty lacklustre Dallas performance last week, but I'll take it after a very tight game.

Looks like Alex Smith is putting up pretty similar numbers to what he was early last year at the Niners Pantaloons. He will continue to flourish at KC I think

Yes, hopefully it continues Dave. He's solid, doesn't make many silly mistakes, and we've got a great RB in Charles to ease the load. It's baby steps for KC after such a poor season, but the makings are there of a half-decent team. The D is potentially one of the NFL's best but with a long way to go to get there. It should be, after all the high draft picks invested in it (2012: Poe #11, 2010: Berry #5, 2009: Jackson #3, 2006: Hali #20, 2005: Johnson #15 - even Flowers at #35 in 2008 was an early 2nd rounder). Anyway, hopefully waking up early on a Monday morning for NFL this season will be even more enjoyable this season.

Vikings go down by a bloody point to another divisional rival. 0-2 in the NFC north. The clock is ticking Mr.Ponder.

Big win to Seattle. The niners just couldn't get into the end zone. Definitely a fortress there and it's hard to see the Seahawks dropping a game at home. Hell of a lot of penalties in the game as well. The Seahawks defense was just too good and they're going to be hard to beat anywhere in all honesty. That is one loud stadium - decibels levels broken apparently.

Big wins to KC, Miami and even the Chargers (that was a real surprise road win) Nice to see the Packers have a big game and the Saints, Denver and Houston won as expected. Came down to the wire at Chicago - fine line between winning and losing sometimes 'cfh'.

But the big winners were Seattle, Denver and probably New Orleans. Had a bit of a look at KC's schedule and it's not that tough. This Friday's game (our time) at Philadelphia now has some real significance (apart from the Andy Reid return)

Not sure anyone picked 3 road team victories - I'll check again tomorrow. Tough going just to get off the mark hey? ^_^ At this rate, someone might join up in week 17 and win the whole thing!

Loser of tomorrow's game between the Steelers and the Bengals could be in a bit of trouble (although even at this early stage, a record of 9/7 could win 3 or 4 Divisions) The NFC East, AFC North and maybe the NFC North are candidates.

In the tipping comp, there is no change to the points table after week 2 (no one tipped 3 road winners) We probably should have a cut off point so 2 more weeks and that's it for new entries (i.e. up until the completion of week 4)

Looks a little easier to find 3 road winners in week 3 but nothing is definite in this League! ... Next week's games

1 - cowboy from hell

1 - Macca

0 - Gorgoroth

0 - pantaloons

0 - DemonDave

0 - 45HG

0 - Norm Smith's Curse

Macca, I'm not finding this any easier!! Um...

KC

Chicago

Green Bay

No confidence whatsoever.

Had a listen to Bill Simmons and Cousin Sal's podcast today (where both Bill and Sal try to guess the lines for week 3 and do a recap of week 2) I'm none the wiser about trying to find 3 road winners after listening to it! (although the podcast does have a comedic angle and is well worth a listen)

... "The B.S Report" ("Spoiler alert" - they chat about the latest episode of 'Breaking Bad' from about 45 minutes into the podcast, so beware!)

I'll do my tips when I post up the 'TV' games tomorrow night. For those wishing to enter the comp, you still have 2 more weeks to join in the 'riotous' fun we're having. Details can be found on the 1st post of page 46 of this thread ... here

No wonder they say the NFL stands for Not For Long. Trent Richardson is a RB for the Browns taken at pick 3 in the draft a couple of years ago. He just got traded to Indy for a 1st round pick. It makes big sense for Indy but for the browns I don't know. Are there a stack of QB's in the draft this year? Well it makes the Vikings game against the Browns a lot easier.

TV games for week 3 ... looking forward to tomorrow's game for a whole bunch of reasons. Can the Chiefs go to 3 and 0?

Fri Sept 20

10.25am Kansas City at Philadelphia (ESPN & OneHD)

Mon Sept 23

3.00am Detroit at Washington (OneHD)

6.05am Atlanta at Miami (Fox1)

6.25am Indianapolis at San Francisco (OneHD)

10.30am Chicago at Pittsburgh (ESPN & OneHD)

Tues Sept 24

10.30am Oakland at Denver (ESPN)

... All the other week 3 games

Road tips for this week ...

Houston

Atlanta

NY Giants

Chicago

San Diego

NY Giants

Colts, Giants and Detroit.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks

The ESPN experts put their picks in every week. There are 14 of them, including Pigskin Pick 'Em, and the most popular road choices this week were:

Green Bay and Houston - 11

Chicago and Giants - 10

Buffalo - 9

Atlanta - 8

KC, Detroit and San Diego - 7

Plenty of love for the road teams this week there, but I think a strong case can be made for the home teams from what I've seen so far this season.

Certainly an unusual move for this time of the season. Gives the Browns a total of 7 picks in the first 4 rounds of next year's draft. I guess Cleveland have decided to go all in on a rebuild. Might end up being a win/win.

As of right now Indy must be thrilled. That offence just got instantly better. I couldn't imagine doing a full pre season with your team being ready to go for another year and by week 3 you get the tap on your shoulder and you have to pack ya bags and relocate yourself and your family to another city. Such is life in American sports I suppose.

Time for the offense to get moving. Three dropped balls so far. Thank goodness for the defense and special teams.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?
