I some ways Deesman has done us all a favour. By commenting as he did, it caused a series of comments pointing out with reasoned logic how utterly baseless racism is. Surely a good thing, and to Deezman's credit he has apologised. Let's move on...

On the subject of the captaincy and Aaron Davey, I'm in two minds. On the one hand, he has done an outstading job of leading and mentoring our indigenous players, and make no mistake they are the x factor which will make us a powerhouse in years to come. They have such sublime skills that it gives us that extra we will need in the future. Whether davey would have the time time continue this mentoring role as Captain only the club can judge. On the other hand, the honour we would all feel in having an indigenous Australian Captaining the oldest football club in the world and see him holding the Cup above his head in 2014 when we win the flag on the 50th anniversary year of our last flag would be quite something. There is a certain symmetry to it. I only hope that big Jimmy will be there to see it.

The other concerning have about Daveyas Captain is the way he sometimes doesn't handle heavy tags very well such as in the first game against Carkton this year. However, he seemed to learn from that and in latter games, played very well when sides tried to do similar things to Carlton.

On balance I think the pluses out-weigh the minuses with Davey as Captain as I think he would make a very fine leader indeed. I also think Brad Green has shown outstanding leadership in the few times he has been acting Captain in the past so he would also be very good.

Agreed and I sure hope this is what eventuates.

For mine, I'm not a fan of having an Aboriginal captain. It's not being racist by any means... but I do feel that Aborigines seem to stick by one another a lot more - i.e. after games when they tend to all gather 'round one another etc.

That's just my take. Aaron is great in recognising and promoting the indigenous community and I'd like to see him stick to that leadership role (and be added to the leadership group!).

I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a Brad Green leading the charges.

Wrong wrong wrong - by all means judge him on his ability as a captain but his ability as an aboriginal, caucasian, catholic, atheist, etc captain is wrong.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
