2010 Player Review - # 12 Colin Sylvia

this is not the same thing of course but here's a 16 second centre clearance goal courtesy of Russian, Sylvia, JB and Dunn. Look at JB go there that is brilliant

Love that opener, I think it's about the first time in 12 years we kicked the first goal... JB's dash is so rugby player like, if he passes you, forget about it.

I'd love him to start finding the ball.

I recently watched the Swans, Bombers and 2nd tigers matches, and I have to mention how hard Sylvia goes at it. I don't think he always did, always tackled hard, but now he is just hard as fark.

Consistency will make him the ultimate footballer.

And to think I once was not a fan. I beg forgiveness.

That's such crap. Ablett goes just as hard as Sylvia and works much harder round the ground. He might not tackle with the ferocity but he still lays his tackles.

Ablett probably has the bigger engine, but a lot of what he does is cruising the packs and receiving. Yes he goes hard, but I'm talking about the man on man stuff. In terms of running all day, if that's what you call "hard" then yes, you're right. My post was to do with body-on-body stuff, which you say yourself he doesn't tackle with the same ferocity. I've never seen Ablett lay a bump like the one Col did in Darwin to make space for a team-mate's goal. Besides... if I was playing with a niggle and was suffering badly from tackles and bumps, I know who I'd rather take a big hit from.

what else do you fantasise about ..?

See above. Not a chance in hell Ablett is as hard at the man as Colin is. Which is not to say that A) He's soft or B) He's a worse player. There aren't all that many that have a love for taking a player out like Col does. Certainly not these days anyway.

I agree with everyone.

Sylvia is a freak, and while i do think Ablett has the better engine, he has a better team to play in... I think that when Scully, Trenners, Gysberts, etc start to come one Colin will be that Ablett type player.

Ive said it before on other threads - I think Colin would be a great captain, I also think it would lift his game... Just my opinion.

Thanks for watching. :)

It was funny walking into the MCG late with a mate who goes for Sydney and seeing us up by a goal 20 seconds in

an injury free colin sylvia, with a full pre season, is going to be a major worry for any team that faces the mighty demons.

i can see col having a massive season over this year, and i wouldnt be suprised if we have around 12 wins, looking at a place in the 8, that it would be colin sylvia with a chance at the brownlow.

his speed and disposal is amazing, and his body strength is top notch, if he can have a consistent offensive and defensive season then i think he will play a significant role in an improving melbourne team.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
