Not sure that we could get him - but of all of the players looking for a new home, he's the one who'd really boost our list.

Proven tall forward - and capable ruckman - to ease the load on Jamar while Fitzpatrick and Gawn develop.

Would allow us to jettison PJ which needs to happen sooner or later.

don't think Bate is going anywhere!!! If the club still has him doing media gigs(TAC superstars) then he is safe as houses. They don't put potential trade players out there to spruke the club

IMO bate is our handy Utility, but isn't the longterm answer as our key forward. I see him more like a Goddard but with inferior hands.

I think Hale would be perfect for our list. He and Russian are both the same age, and in 4 yrs time when both would be in their 30's we'd have Gawn and Fitzpatrick to take over from them.

Hale can play in the forward line and is mobile enough around the ground to. How many guys at nearly 200cm who have been in the league for a while, can we pick up on the cheap. Nth don't need him given they've got Goldstein, McIntosh, and Petrie as their top bigmen.

I think this is a very good suggestion, and one i've seriously thought about as well.

Yes Hale can definitely ruck .... he began his career as a ruckman - and only went forward when McIntosh emerged. I'd take him as a knock ruckman over PJ any day- (quite apart from the fact that he can mark)

Realistically big Max is at least two years away ... even if his knee hasn't gawn

One thing I'd be looking closely at in fwd-ruck is defensive pressure - we can't afford to have a statue that defenders can easily run off. Leigh Brown, Paddy Ryder and Mitch Clark average about 4 tackles per game - David Hale averages less than 2 and Jesse White averages close to 1.

Also worth noting that Leigh Brown is 194cm to Hale's 201cm. Brown plays all over the ground as well, giving more opportunities to tackle.

Ryder is also 197cm and probably one of the most athletic big men in the game who again spends most of his time in the middle. Again, more opportunities to tackle.

Clark is the only one comparable to Hale in terms of height given he is 200cm, yet he also plays more of a roaming ruckmen type role. I'm not sure if your stats are career averages or just from last year, but i fully expect that if Hale played in the centre of the ground and not a full-forward for the Kanagas then he would have had more tackles.

Anyway, i'd feel pretty confident the club could get him to improve on his tackling if it was a concern.

Regardless, for mine he just ticks the right boxes for our lineup. Can play as a second ruck, go forward and kick goals, is another legitimately big body, and is reasonably mobile to play around the ground. He's worth a shot and would be a real upgrade over pj.

Not overly fussed about this bloke. There's a reason he couldn't get a game at North and the fact he couldn't after Petrie went down again is concerning.

He could be worth a punt however what we would have to give up is the big question.

He isn't worth a first round pick. He is probably a late second round and a player maybe but what players do we realistically have that north want or need and that we would be willing to give up (especially in light of today's signings announcement)?

I think he'd cost too much, compared to the out of fashion Q. Get someone short term & cheap. And draft kids for 2 years time.
