GAME DAY THREAD

Featured Replies

It'd be a hell of an effort to get up here.

Which begs the question, do we really deserve to be playing finals? Will we only get smashed week one?

Don't get me wrong, I still want to be there... But I can live with not making it if there's a big effort, like we've seen today.

can the boys finish strong, or are the Hawks way to talented for the MFC?

watching the game on 7, it looks like buddy just has the wood over chip :(

Reminds me a bit of the Richmond game in reverse. The Hawks just look like they have us at arms length. I reckon the fresh legs might show and they'll run over us in the last quarter.

no chance for 4 points today :( MFC need to beat these sides if they want to play finals next year. in all conditions.

Next year, yes. This year we are still quite immature. The fact that we are in it up to our necks is a credit to the boys.

Back in touch, can't see us pinching it but who knows. Sounds like the umpires are bending us over.

yeah i can see your point there... i guess it is just frustration on my behalf, im not liking the close losses this year. better than the thumpings MFC have received over the last few years.

21 points appears to be a final margin, so does not reflect the day. Sounds like we've been all over them in parts, but we lacked the final bit of class to finish the game. Aaron Davey was a massive loss, being one down for most of the day is bad enough but when you lose your best player it just makes things 20x worse.

The commentators are full of nothing but praise for us, and IMO we shouldn't lose sight of what the aim was this year: improvement and constant competitiveness. Well done to the boys today, and who knows what next week will bring.

AAMI stadium, they way they played today I would think that MFC are a VERY good chance against port.

Very unlucky to lose Davey and find ourselves playing against Hawthorn and four pricks pretending to be umpires. What a disgrace this competition has become. Poor Frawley, who the hell wants to be a defender these days!

Good effort from us to stay in touch. At least we gave them a hard time of it.

Just got home from the game, and people are being harsh on Jack Watts again.

Wasnt his best game, but it has been a very hard day for players of his type.

If i had to put someone on the block it would be Clint Bartram - Yes he gets the ball and is brave but his disposal is not fit for Casey, let alone for the Demons at the MCG.

James McDonald is an amazing player, dont care if he takes a spot on the list for another year if he can be half as good.

James Frawley - Hold your head up, Buddy was given 1 in the 3rd quarter by the umpires. Some players you cant give room, Buddy is one of them.

The rest of the MFC - hard day at the office, there wont be many games where Brad Green gets 11 possies and our skills are that bad.

The Umpires - Ironic how they are sponsored by OPSM. Do they do reviews at half time? They could'nt of today, JASON DUNSTALL said we were hard done by at crucial moments...

All in all great performance, To go down by 21 points, playing 1 man down in the rain is a massive change from round 1. Just shows how far we have come.

From overseas, just caught the scores. Any main reason why we only kicked 1 goal in the last Q?

We had nothing left in the tank being a man down for 3 quarters.

Oh and the umpiring was such a disgrace that they ruined crucial attempts at goal for us.

We can hold our heads high. Everything was against us today and to lose by less than 4 goals is a good effort. We've come such a long way!

Fair call, Those F@#$ing Dawks are really going to cop it from us in the next decade

Geez we owe them Dozens of thrashings.

Was it a good Crowd?

Was it a good Crowd?

48,000 or so, definitely as many if not more Demons there.

God I hate Hawthorn and their supporters. What a bunch of arrogant, self-righteous [censored]. Can't wait to smash them, and especially the crying princess Franklin and his beer gut.

Looking forward to watching them get ripped to shreds come finals.

48000 from memory.

Buddy should pursue an acting career - you can see the talent pouring out of him

Ok, yes the umpiring at times was on the verge of them wearinf Hawthorn jumpers but,

To me we were smashed, I mean SMASHED at the clearances and if some one could have stood some where within 5 meters of Sewell at a contest he and mitchel might not have destroyed us and given them first use oh so many times.

that to me, is where the game was lost.

The umpires, especially that moron #30 did not cost us, but did not help.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
