On Today Tonight they did a story on the Ox and his gambling situation and talked about when he finished his career he was a mill in debt because of all his gambling issues. He also spoke about him never dealing with his fathers death. Anyway one of his closest friends is his accountant who obviously helped him out and David gave him a copy of his book.

Matthew White then said the book would be available at the end of the week. I think it would be a fascinating read and always thought the Ox should bring out a book.

The book is called All Bets Are Off.

Its also good to see he hasnt gambled in years and he had counselling to deal with the death of his father.

Nice title. It's good that he can sort of poke fun at what was surely a pretty crappy aspect of his life. I'm not much of a biography reader (auto or otherwise), but I kind of like the Ox, so I might consider maybe possibly reading the synopsis of a review after the book comes out.

I like the Ox, a very down to earth, unpretentious fella. I feel very proud of him & that he is a Demon legend.

One of the best.

You have to admire the Ox, after all he's been through, and to see where he's at today. His Dad was murdered when David was 8 (and David was in the room when the murder took place). He then managed to break into the highest ranks of the AFL to become an elite player - only to have his career cruelled by injury. He battled a gambling addiction that saw him throw away all his footy income.

But, he's turned that all around. Has a lovely family, and is building a career in the media. Believe he's also helping other gambling addicts in some way.

Yeah, well done, Ox!

I'll wager 6 to 4 on that it becomes a best seller!

I bought it today....browsing in the bookshop just as they put the first stocks on the shelf. I've flicked through & am keen to read it from pg 1 to the end just like any other book, but as I read through paragraphs I felt like I was part of his conversation. He may have hidden his dark side for quite a while but he doesn't hide anything else...such an honest man.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
