give the kid a break

wasnt the only player out there today

Totally agree. By that definition, pavlich is a choker cause he missed one when the pressure was on in last qtr.

And upon further reflection might i just add something else..........

A Melbourne of 2007-2009 would have lost that by 15 goals.

This Melbourne showed grit when they were shite for 60 minutes and fought their way back. For that i am pleased.

Half glad we lost as sick as that sounds. We have to learn that you can't dish out a half like that and expect to win. Melbourne's first half would have lost to a A grade VAFA team.

Mmmm hmmm.

On the other hand, the side deserves to be 6.1.9 at this stage of the year. We've been good enough... We ARE good enough. And the fact we're only a game and a half clear of the spoon (plus percentage maybe) isn't an accurate sum up to me.

I was thinking by about the 20 minute mark of the 4th that, if we assume luck is all fifty-fifty, the side deserved to win the game. Hell, once Watts marked it could have been it.

I can't help it, but well done PJ, by far his best and most skillfull effort.

Agreed. Played a very good game. Deserves a recall next week. He just build on that now, in order to maintain his place on the list, come seasons end.

Trengove back in and Bate out.

Would be better having PJ remaining in and staying up forward. Theres a solution.

There is nothing to be gained from having Bate in ,Didn't win a single one on one today and helped stopped the momentum in the 3rd we he tried to unsuccessfully again break another tackle through the middle and was drilled. Can anyone point out a single positive he had today that wasnt tainted with 3 terrible efforts.

First qtr hurt us again. why do we start so badly, it's been happening all year. Dont think we will win next week, will be flat as most sides are after playing in the west.

The Great Escape currently Playing on Fox Classics..

a win would have been a great lead in to that movie...

We are moving forward, and we are slowly learning to win again. Next lesson is coping with pressure...

this time it was the first AND second quarter

whole different team after the half time break

if we play 4 quarters each week

the dees would b very hard to stop

A young side doesnt have the legs to play 4 quarters every week, id be happy with 3 quarters next week.

We well and truly won the last three quarters. Need to turn up on time next week!

How many goals is the home ground advantage worth though? Those umpires were gutless anytime they were within 30 metres of the boundary fence. The throw on the boundary line with Sylvia immediately pinged afterwards...Ballantyne trying to break a tackle...their players consistently rolling our tacklers and buckling at the legs, if not pitching out straight into a swandive...

And Ballantyne...is there a player you dislike more?

Those are the matches we will win in 12 months.

Scully was great in terms of workrate.

Watts was good in terms of keeping at it (made some mistakes, but who didnt and doesnt)

MacDonald was AWESOME i thought. Tough, and willing to take the game on, thats why we recruited hi. Loved his game today.

All is not lost, 24 months ago we lose that by 10+ goals. in 12 months we win that game.

And Ballantyne...is there a player you dislike more?

I would get an unhealthy amount of pleasure slapping that kid around the head.

ucanchoose and demon josh - that is the reason that I don't the Dees live in front of my three year old.

It was funny, sort of. My wife kept trying to move him into the play room. He just sat there smiling at me and saying, "He's angry".

I'm guessing you took quite amount of pleasure from J-Mac's hit on him then....as did we all.

Crazy game. The margin between us and them in the second half was just as great as the margin between them and us in the first half. That game was crying out to be won but we just couldn't put it to bed. Good teams slot home their set shots when it counts and we didn't/couldn't.

We'll shake this 4 quarter syndrome one day. As annoying as it was, there was still alot to take away from it and I'm now very much looking forward to us taking on the Swans at the G.

..and Bater's got to go. Even Greeny has had enough.

We had no right to win that game.

You don't turn up for half a game and expect to win, especially at Subiaco.

If we don't learn from this, we never will. It's unacceptable to play like rubbish for a half then decide to turn up in the third quarter. The game was lost 10 minutes into the first quarter, as it was on Queens Birthday and against the Dogs, and in every other game where we started like shite.

On the plus side, Scully, McKenzie and Frawley were enormous. Watts was very good too. Had he kicked those 2 goals he would be close to our best IMO. Worked incredibly hard, made very good leads, and some of his footwork was beautiful to watch. He was everything that Bate wasn't today (and Bate needs to go to Casey next week for a spell).

Bring back Junior, Trengove and Grimes ASAP. We could use some more class and leadership, and those 3 are players who don't roll over and play dead for half a game.

Infuriating!!!

Totally agree Jaded, they will learn from this and only make them better.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
